Yeah, my remarks were intended to be taken semi-seriously.

    Anyone familiar with Bezzera?

    https://www.1st-line.com/buy/bezzera...resso-machine/

Seems like an awesome machine for $1k less than the competition.

Fantastic, capable machine, but it's $1k less because it's a heat exchanger machine. If I could have either that or the Lelit MaraX, I would choose the MaraX any day honestly.

    tgapp,

What's your review on the Weber grinder? Thumbs up or down? How does it compare to the Niche? Buy it again?

Have you found on great greens to roast?

Ahh, got it, thanks. My friend is looking and I think he thought it was a double boiler. I should have read further into it. Basically he’s looking to spend $1-$2k and have PID. I told him Mara X, Expobar Office Lever, or my strongest recommendation being for the Breville dual boiler hacked to give PID, etc. anything I’m missing?

Imo bdb and marax are the undisputed leaders in that price range, just depends on what you want (basically features vs build quality is the debate at it's most simplistic)

I realize that this question is not up to the standard of this thread but how to I grind beans and make a cup of espresso without leaving grinds all over the counter?

Don't fucking ask me. I'll take a picture of my workstation today but it's a mess. Grounds everywhere.

The first real espresso machine I got I bought used from a very well-off aerospace engineer living in Boise. He had an incredibly well appointed space, stunning home, and a full roastery in the back. He had recently upgraded to a Slayer (a $9k machine) with a Ceado Hero (a $5k grinder) and I was disgusted by how much grounds were all over the counter. I thought - this guy is clearly hyper successful, how can he not keep his workstation clean? And now here I am living in filth.

Re: keeping your station clean - part of the answer is "it's impossible", another part is "use a couple drops of water on your beans to prevent as much static as possible and spend more time cleaning than making coffee..."

In other news, just received a bag of this, which supposedly was used in a couple pretty major competitions and is highly regarded... will report back.

Damn. That looks great I actually have an anaerobic gesha from the same processor right now. Sidra is an amazing varietal. Stoked to see more of it. Also stoked to see more anaerobic coffees that are done with a "light touch" - I don't need extra soy sauce with my coffee.

get a tray about the size of a cafeteria tray or smaller and put it under your grinder to catch stray grounds and dump the tray

I use a funky looking pottery tray someone made

A dosing funnel. Total game changer for me in the mess department! Here's mine:

I'm glad to hear it's not just me. I'll keep making a mess and stop feeling bad about it.

Truth. My niche 0 grind catcher is 58mm compatible and it is a game changer for grind to portafilter transfer.

You guys are probably just cleaner than I am, of course I use dosing funnels and a single dose grinder and whatever and I still end up with coffee mess everywhere.

Part of it is that I have so many goddamn meetings at work I have to rush an espresso shot when I have like an extra 5 minutes

I made one of those by cutting the bottom half off a Dixie cup. Good way to test drive the funnel idea before committing.
