One Piece Base Layers

I searched around and couldn't really find anything. Does anyone use a one piece base layer? It seems as though it would be really comfortable. Show me what youve got and if you would recommend them or not.

I use one all the time. Hard to take a leak, but it's really cozy.

SmartWool used to make them, also.

Search for "Union Suit", and look at places that supply the hunting crowd (Cabelas) or outfit the construction/oil field worker with cold weather gear, Carhartt/Tractor Supply Company, etc.

I reread your post. These can be sued for for a base, but I don't use then that way. They're much better as a midlayer for insulation. If you're outside all day, they're unbeatable.

I tried it on last year, and it fit me a little strange. BUT, it seemed really nice, so if you can get a good fit, go for it.

I think they were around $75 retail last year.

No it´s not.

And try to spend longer time in one and you will start to fucking loath it : read,try to take a dump in one in shitty weather. You have to peel everythingoff..

It can even happen in afterski after a jar of beer and a bowl of hot salsa...you better practice...

But for short things,like xc skiing or winter running they are exelent.

You just got a poorly designed one if you have to do that. These have been around and used in outdoor construction for years and years. The good ones have an opening across the backside with two layers that normally fold across each other. It works fine.

The answer is an IR one-piece kayak union suit dealy. The good news - no zippers, gaps, anything. You just hop in through the magic stretchy neck. The two bits of bad news. Life sucks if you need to take a dump. And the neck material is a bit sweaty, so I wear a light wool or capilene t-neck. As comfy & draft free as it gets.

Bonus use points if you are a kayaker - esp one who wears a dry suit...

A norwegian brand called www.aclima.no makes one in merino wool

I have the hoody, and love it. You can wear it like a round nec, a polo and then the hood. Probably gonna buy some more this season.

I know of another company that should have a Merino Union suit with a hoody...but it's next seasons stuff.

Will report back once I see the sample and maybe test one out this winter.

Are these really better then tucking in your shirt?

Unless they're made of pretty stretchy material, wouldn't you need an extra yard of fabric in the ass to keep from flossing your crack every time you put your arm above your head? I'd think they would have to be well tailored not to suck.

Another vote for the Airblaster suit. My Smurf blue one kills it. Just wish the legs were 3/4 rather than full - cuffing the legs is getting annoying.
