I saw a mountain sled hanging out of a short bed Tacoma the other day. Must’ve been 40% hanging out in space. I realize most of the weight is up front but that can’t be good for the truck or for drive-ability can it?

YOLO. Its a Taco so full send always bro! I mean when its fully clapped with 200k, some up and comer will pay $10K for it.
165 is about 11ft long and weights about 450lbs so not that much relative to truck shit. For many, myself included, sledding is no fucks given, give it the onion, old school fun.
Things like trailer lights, OHV stickers, is it bad for the world ain't real high on the list.

I'll be damned, they make sled decks for short bed tacos: https://standingsleddecks.ca/product...39372367102024
Maybe I'll get some airbags and give'er.

I put a plywood deck in my ‘03 taco with the 74” bed. Just to get above the wheel wells with the sled’s skis. Also have extra leaf’s in the rear packs. With the sled about 500lbs, 2 adults and gear, and that’s near the listed load capacity. Rides great all winter.

Tailgate support/reinforcement is the only real benefit of an in-bed single sled deck (assuming your skis fit between the wheel humps and you don't have to raise above them), but a mighty crucial one.

Blurred- Sick sleds! I'll be stoked to hear some feedback on that 858 as the season progresses. Not much real world testimony on them out there yet. I really want to be an Arctic Cat guy again, but they've made it pretty difficult over the last 13 years.
Outside of the random M6/7/8 I always have kicking around for my wife/guests/spare, the last cat I owned was a '14 Sno Pro 162. Great motor and power but left lots to be desired in the maneuverability dept compared to the other brands. I've spent a good mount of time on a buddy's 2018 Mountain Cat with an Elevate kit too. Great climber for ski laps, but still not even close to competitive in the fun/flick dept IMO.
I'd love to have a compelling reason to replace my '17 G4 with one of these Catalysts next year...

I used to leave my sled in my 6.5 bed a lot, it made the truck drive quite a bit better actually. Buddy had a 5.5 Tacoma and a 165 for a while, it went in and didn't fall out, but looked pretty stupid. The weight of the sled is closer to the axle than it looks, probably better weight distribution than a hitch mount moto rack.

These are actually pretty cool. I think they are about $1500.

And holy shit, the video that started right after that one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rzPNHR72MA

I'm guessing you meant to post a Sled Deck Fail vid?
But yeah, the traction ladders work. And the idea is to get enough momentum to "park" on the ramp and creep up. Grab...the...brake.

Ha...I've seen it. Last year I asked someone if he wanted help (jump on the deck and give a ski pull) when he was trying to load his girl friends sled. He declined and proceeded to whisky it through the back window.
Snowmobiles deserve respect. They are powerful, unpredictable beasts. Many people learn this the hard way.

That single loader is cool, but I'm a bit confused about how it goes from being attached at an angle on a hinge and rollers up into the back of the truck to being flat on the ground with the sled still on it as I didn't see any lifting mechanism to get the nose of the loaded dolly up into the back of the truck

@heck
Short answer: It doesn't
Thats a bit of a gimicky marketing video that should say, "when you've got it take apart for the summer, you can but your sled on top and roll it around in your garage"

But you are hinting at the holy grail of functionality, "how do I get the sleds in and out of the garage with out dollys and running then and tearing up the drive way?" No great answer unless you like lighting money on fire.

Decks are nice but I can't dedicate my truck like that so I just go with the old school two place steel drive on drive off. Whatever you got, practice loading and make sure you've got a way to get a dead sled up on it.

That last bit made me very glad I was using a trailer and not trying to load a sled into the bed of my F-150--a dead M8 doesn't weigh a lot in the context of motorsports, but it weighs a lot more than I want to be pushing uphill. Even getting it onto the trailer was an exercise in physics and strap selection.

I went to ANT’s website out of curiosity….I guess you can make a pretty cool sled deck for 20+K.
Trailer does seem like the simplest solution, but not so great for my application. Can’t tow one over the pass in the winter and a lot of the trailheads I’d like to access on my side have virtually no room for backing one around.

Yep, I'm familiar with the Teton Scene.
What is the wheel well the wheel well measurement of a Taco?

The answer is always #flatbrimliftedTundra! It is known!
163 track in a 6.5ft bed. The truck definitely handles way better with the sled in than it does empty - similar to how it did when I ran a shell and bed platform. I do run airbags, usually around 20psi with the sled in, but it still does fine if I forget to fill them.
The RevArc ramp is by far the best I've used. The convex shape means I can totally just crawl up in there. https://bosskibuilt.com/collections/...8-20-sled-ramp
