Ehh, you don't have to hang out with those people if you don't want honestly. The past 10 years I am on the "Get into the show early progam." Especially GA shows. My crew is always in the prime zone FOB.

Hanging out in the lot until 7pm stumbling around is fucking amateur hour.

That crowd was nuts tonight. I don't blame you.

I think I told this story above, but maybe not. Took a little 1000 + one way mile road trip, ended up camping right under the wall in Tijuana. This year, a few months ago. Recommend. $20, right off the beach. Do it.

Barely got one bar on my phone to get an uber from my tent, solid guy from Philly, laughed may ass off the whole way talking life. Got dumped in the parking lot up high, walked into the VIP non shake down to pee and three people just start running up to me screaming, OMG, MEEEEEEE (my name), holy shit you are here! LOVE YOU. Looked to my friend who I traveled with and she just was aghast laughing and looking at me like WWWWTTTTFFFF?

    Big hugs all around.

It turned out to be the best show I have ever been, from since 1989. Absolutely amazeballs.

There is a thing. When you catch it on the right time, in the right place, all you can do is look around an share in the smile.

    Good livin'.

I still have no idea who those people were, but I probably hooked them up in some way at some point down the path of life.

MEEEEE!! Holy shit, that was good times. We had to sit down and laugh afterwards because I couldn't hold it together. And my stomach hurt.

And read the fucking book, please.

    Trey was listening.

Several people I know spotted in there. The best is my buddy Lewis. The dude they ask about porn lol. I have seen him make $10,000 in a weekend selling pins. No joke. Hardest working guy on tour. Period.

The family is solid. There are some really big DB's, but for the most part it all evaporates after a really deep jam.

I don't know, it's part of what I grew up with growing with them, helping the band transition from a listserve in the late 80's to the usenet group I helped create, sharing tapes, taping many many show, road trips, hiatus, and then finding the joy again after a decade plus off, and just realizing that when you hear a really good one, you just cry. It taps into something joyful. Something that you need and want in your life.

There was a moment tonight that did that for me. I can't say any other musical act could ever do that for me, reach right into me and make me cry from happiness alone.

Bach does it, Beethoven does it, but, they don't compare musically. There is something about being there and feeling that jam that just fucking gets to me. I always laugh, I always say, oh god, this sucks. But there are moments that are just like hoooooly fuck.

It's an acquired taste for sure. It's like skinning. Honestly. Put the work in on the up, you might get shafted and be like why the fuck did I just spend 3 hours slogging for this. Or, it might blow your mind.

That's the only way I can describe my journey for the last 30 years. But I definitely invite every opportunity.

And they are fucking really conscious people who know where they are at and try to make the world better at their expense for sure.
The boys are solid AF. Probably have donated more than this entire board's net worth times 3.

    Giant Bowl of Lemonade

    1. Get handed lemons

    2. Make lemonade

    3. Enjoy!
If you realize it's all a fucking joke, then you laugh even harder.

I appreciate a band that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and Phish certainly doesn’t as evidenced by their history. I saw it again in their fun and banter between songs last night and especially Trey in his 3rd set “Good Luck” shirt.

As for the scene, I personally find it to be mostly harmless and amusing especially when viewed through Bobby’s lens of the ‘Estimated Prophet’ if I am allowed to continue to perpetuate the old Grateful Dead ==> Phish lineage comparison.

I love to visit with the Estimated Prophet, but don’t want to live with them.

Sounds like we should go to see if the Prophet is at the Jubilee in May.

    Fucking Wooks.

When I heard that, I just thought about what it meant in life, and yes, I did cry.

I've been out of the scene for a long long time, but it doesn't mean that I don't find joy buying a hand made antelope hat from the lot. Set the gearshift to the high gear of your soul.

Try at least. Music gives hope and joy.

This is true for me as well… music and dancing are powerful for me in their own right. Would I have gotten this perspective without the drugs? I don’t know. I do know that it works for me to be fully present now to let the magic of the music do its thing. Also much easier and safer driving… maybe I’m just getting old.

Be well and Happy New Year all!

BTW… that JamBase “Songs of their Own” series is fantastic. I converted and downloaded them all a couple years ago. PM me your address if you want me to burn and send you CD copies in the mail. Yes, I am definitely getting old

Ghost>Slave was killer. Loved the Dw/D and Miss You, love Trey slow jams, YEM also kicked ass, fell asleep at the end of YEM. The mix was outstanding, so freaking clean. TTE actually sounded good last night.

In case anyone was curious this is where they broadcast NYE from. The sound was indeed clean and crispy.

^^ my GF’s folks live in Lititz, PA. We stayed at the hotel there a few years ago, place is super cool. A lot of what happens there is touring acts set up their stage so the crew can train on setup, teardown, operation etc before they take the show on the road.

I think Trey’s guitar tech lives in Lititz too.

I like the billing. “Some dudes farm idk”

    Epic.

I kid about phish. Probably seen a dozen shows.

Not gonna lie- it’s harder than it’s been in a long time. The wank factor is off the charts and the “new material”, ie the slop they put out on Halloween, is pretty much unlistenable for me. That said I thought the NYE event was pretty special.

Got a real nice 2/2/91 show playing now tho. Reminds me why we used to drive to see these guys!!

The Halloween set was fucking lame. "BuT YoU dOnT rEaLlY gEt PhIsH bRo!!!!" They can be funny/weird AND the actual songs can be good too. The songs don't have to blow for it to be a funny gag.

That said the Eugene shows in October last year were some of the best I have seen in a LOOONG time.

Seriously? In general, the music they've written this last decade has been well received and all the recent shows have been top notch. Don't use Halloween as a barometer, that's just a silly outlier.

    In for 4/20 & 4/21 floors tix!

They just dropped a bunch of packages for Mexico, guessing there was a ton of refund requests. Not ideal time to travel to Mexico, but man it’s tempting. It’ll probably end up being half capacity, and a nice vacation…
