rockford, illinois' finest! in high school, the lead singer's son lived up the street from me (with his mom), and we were very good friends. i got to hang out backstage at their big 25th (20th? i dont remember) anniversary show in rockford, met slash (! he was filthy and smelly), art alexakis (everclear dude), and stood just off stage next to billy corgan (tall and creepy). rick nielson is friends with the owner of my dad's office building and hangs out there occasionally. i get way stoked when i hear them on the radio

Rockford represent!
Rick bought the house next to the high school I dropped out of.
Before Rick bought it, it was a cool party hangout. He put up a big iron fence to keep people away.
What a buzzkill.
Oh, and Robin Zander has got to be gay. Has he ever come out of the closet?. . .

Rick Nielson's house is two blocks from my parents house and Bun E. Carlos (oops just plain old Brad Carlson) parents live a block in the other direction.....and my youngest brother (who played in the "guitar army" at the 25th show) taught guitar lessons to Rick's kids.........how's that for Rockford trivia?! Next month will see the release of their famous 1978 Live at Budokan concert on DVD. From Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/BUDOKAN-30th-A...230455&sr=8-11
For the first time, the DVD premieres the previously unseen historic 1978 Tokyo concert, aired only once on Japanese TV."The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size."

FUCK YOU!!!! ROBIN ZANDER IS NOT GAY!!!!!
..and Bun E. Carlos was the best stage name ever.
Seriously, Robin's not gay. He probably still gets more pussy every day than any of you homos could ever dream of.
Really, he's not gay.

ahhhh, for the first time in approximately over 9 months a thread that I can honestly agree with every posting in here except the one 'bout Zander being gay.
CT was, is and always will be one of those timeless, underground bands that will slay whatever stage, whereever till the last band member standing is 6' under.
Long live Cheap Trick!!!
p.s. grew just a cow patty chuck ala-discus-style from Rockford so I'd like to think I know wtf I'm talkin' 'bout here.Last edited by Xover; 10-06-2008 at 11:20 PM.

This is fkna awesome cheap trick.
Rock and roll. No dream police bullshit.
Bun E. Carlos looks like your local mailman or butcher. But bangs the drums hard with cigarette in mouth.
Rick neilson is trying too hard, to be odd, but he is odd and a decent guitarist.
And Robin Zander is a decent guitarist himself. Back when he played. Before the sucky dream police.

Slash admits rick Nielsen was a major influence.
The dude can play. Makes it look easy.

CHEAP TRICK
Rick was the guy. They played at Hardly Strictly a couple years ago, but these days he can only handle the multineck guitar for a short time. That thing was mind blowing when he first brought it out. Robin def don’t look like Robin anymore. I think Bunny’s kid took over for him.

Post dream police.
Zander trying a new look.
Nielsen fucking around with a five neck guitar.
But damn they still rock.
And somehow Nielsen gets a wall of sound without looking like he’s playing.

Bun got kicked out because.....Robin's wife started to go on tour with the band to keep an eye on Robin (who is not gay but has a history of wandering eyes and other body parts).....Bun didn't get along with or like the wife or something like that...at some point he said to Rick either she goes or I go (it's always been Rick's band despite the Rockford boys going way back)...and Rick said she stays (for what ever reasons to keep Robin, in check or whatever) so see ya......Frontman Robin was more important to the band than Bun despite being a GREAT drummer, not fancy but SOLID....that seems to be the common knowledge below the surface in Rockford circles....though I don't know about the details of pre-existing financials/contracts/legal stuff.....CTR

Well, Bun's not in this vid from 2016. The comments say he's still in the band but not touring, (cuz the comments are always accurate). Tom is in the car, I think, but they barely show him playing.
Sidenote; the first car phone I ever used was in their manager's car. (I was dating a gal who had a cottage near Rockford, and she knew him somehow.)
Well maybe I'm the faggot America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda

Was great friends with the people that bought ricks old house (we'd party there all the time) and rick moved two doors down. The one friend was in the band harmony riley with the nielsen kids.
