Clarkson is irreverent, disrespectful to (many) minority groups, and seems to have cultivated his Top Gear persona to be a caricature of the wealthy in Britain. The fact that he isn't trying to make a political or social point, and instead just likes to spew about foreigners, may give him a chance of getting the show aired on another network.

He's playing to the stereotypes, but then again class divide has always been prevalent in British history.

Him being irreverent & disrespectful is part of why it's funny. Who gives a shit if he's making a social point.

People used to criticize Billy Connolly for being crass, he said who cares if it's crass, funny is funny.

Man, if he's only 54, I suspect a serious drinking problem.

I have been a fan of the show since 04, and am pretty sure I have seen every episode and special buy the current presenters.
Sure Clarkson is old fashioned and not a great role model in the modern day, but his frankness and journalistic/comedic delivery are the core of the show. And there is a reason no other car show has been this successful. It really is comedy more than just a car show, and comedy is not always PC. I agree with some critics that some segments have become stale, over played, unoriginal. But then there are segments like the review of Peugeot recently where I could not contain my laughter. So I crave the new episodes and the current cancelation of the series, is like going cold turkey. I know there are segments already filmed just waiting to be shown, and I want them.
Top Gear seem to have always been good at not taking them selves too serious and making a laugh out of dire situations. So I wonder if they could film the studio segments without Clarkson to finish off the series. May and Hammond could really make a good joke of it. And they should be able to find a funny way to doctor the remaining films. Maybe blur Jeremy's face, or cover it with someone else's face, perhaps someone Jeremy loathes. Have someone dub over Jeremy's voice, how about someone french. Make a laugh out of it, and go out with a bang.
Should TG be cancelled, JC replaced, sold to a private company, it will struggle to ever be as good as it has been.

My favorite segment of all time is the Reliant Robin trip JC takes all of 14 miles and keeps rolling it on its side.

I agree. That distended gut is a telltale sign. I too think the show has gotten kind of stale. But stale TG is better than most tv. Probably laughed at that show more than any other. The bit in Burma where Clarksons donkey mounted Hammonds after a few comments about his enlarged member had me laughing so hard I though I was going to faint. And that was last year. I hate to see it go. But at sometime it was bound to end. Those guys are going to get too old to push the cars hard at some point. They have tried to replicate the formula in other countries and it just isn't the same. Top Gear USA is just awful though I like Foust. Australian TP is ok but the specials with the challenges on BBC are incomparable IMO.

I agree that Peugeot segment the other week had me dying. Clarkson and May pulled off the perfect impersonation of non-car people.

    Still makes me smile.

Clarkson, Hammond and May to NetFlix? (and Andy too)

Looks like it could be. "House of Cars" as a working title?

So has anything developed moving forward? This episode was taped before the incident.

Yep it's the stuff they'd filmed before the cold meat platter incident.

Nothing new other than BBC say they're considering new format with rotating guest hosts.

Is that the guy who owns all those classic Ferarris and let May take one out?

Blech. I'm sure he's a qualified dude, and I'll probably tune in, but the show as I know and love it is dead to me.

Hope the trio gets something worked out on Netflix.

Yep that's the guy. Hugely popular in the UK for 20 something years, national daily radio and TV shows. TV production companies etc.. very, very wealthy man. He bought ex-James Coburn 250GT spider that May drove for I think it was $11m? Think he has biggest private car collection in the UK now?

It's some big shoes to fill, that's for sure.

Before clicking the link I was thinking this "Chris Evans":

But the British dude makes more sense.
