The scout is leaving me after 20 years...

This scout will scare old people.
    It will make children run.
Women will scream to go for a ride in it.
It will make your brother in law jealous.
It will make Jeep Rubicon owners tell you “nice Bronco.”
FJ40 guys will tell you they like the motor.
Doctors in Land Rover Defender 90’s will wonder what it is.
The Classic Scout guys will tell you “I wish I had that kind of money”
It’s not a Corvette or Porsche so don’t expect it to drive like one. It is spongy and leans in the turns. Lower it if you want but the wheel travel is crazy long.

I have had this Scout since 2000, if you want to flip it to somebody else for more money just don’t tell me.
If you are successful enough to give me $35k in cash for it, send me an email titled “I’m awesome” and you can have it. We will not talk about the one you used to have and you may not ask me why there isn’t a radio.

If it were a bronco you'd be getting like 70k...and for 35k you could at least scrape the rtv off that dynatrac....j/k! Glws that a damn clean scout. Shit those axles are like half the asking price.

I am in the red, a lot. The power train was over $35k the axles were $13k.

I had two people amused by the ad but nobody wants it. I'll be owning it for some time yet.

The bronco demographic is far more affluent than the scout people. IH people seem to be the least funded of that market, well other than this poor bastard who has three scouts on hemmings for a long, long time.

If a Rover doesn't leak oil, it's empty.

I still have my old girl, 1996 D1 SE7 5-Speed. My winter beast. Same drivetrain as the NAS D90, just has a bigger butt. She's starting to show her age. Hood and roof blackouts on the horizon, as well as a valve job (finally).

The 800 looks the best. The orange one was a really terrible paint choice.
They are listed sold on the website but they are paying to put them on hemmings. I think somebody "bought" them and then bailed on the payments.

My sister has a scout still completing the final build (covid put a slowdown on it). Current shop owner says it's a $55k truck. Will post pics when she's complete.

    Affluent As Fuck!

Haha I cant believe what even p.o.s Broncos(like mine) are going for now. Shit I saw Leno, Kelly Clarkson, and fucking Kevin Hart all driving decked out Broncos recently. Coyote swaps, lifts, and ultra clean bodys for cruising L.A..... oh well I better go put my new starter in mine and air up my 2 flat tires. Click image for larger version.

Grabbed a farm truck. One Ton 350 Power Ram 4x4. I live pretty deep on an already rural island and have a neighbor down the road I’ve met a couple times but don’t know well. He never parked this truck out front so hadn’t seen it before but drove by and there was a For Sale sign that apparently he had almost literally put on when I knocked on his door. We live on a private road so it’s crazy he even posted a sign and got a bite as just a few neighbors drive by everyday.

Anyway, we take it for a spin and I can tell he’s a lonely older fella and likes to tell great stories so we just keep driving and chatting. We finally head back towards home and he confides in me that he has multiple organ stage 4 cancer that was just diagnosed a few days ago. He’s not going to do any treatment and just wants to live out his days fishing and riding his bike for as long as possible. I stay for coffee and am just blown away by his stoicism and peace. I get angrier than him when my kids leave the towel on the bathroom floor. He’s pretty sure that if there is a God, he’s an asshole, so he’s happy either being worm food or hanging out with some other entity.

We start talking about the truck and he tells me he’s well off and he can’t take the Dodge with him so he tosses me the keys. Free truck he says. I decline and pay him what was on the sign which was a smoking deal anyway and tell him he can donate it if he wants.

That was a couple weeks ago and we text everyday now and I pop by to see how he’s doing. He always wants me to drive the truck down to him so he can show me more little tidbits about it and retell it’s history. He also loves to “fix” little things on it still that are completely unnecessary for a near 40 year old rig. He’s concerned that the absolutely banged up truck bed needs an old piece of plywood so I headed over for that too. I will say the hidden key was nice to know about.

Anyway, we will see how long he hangs on but I like the story and am glad something he loved will have another life. This thing is cherry too. Brand new engine and tranny 17k ago among a ton of other stuff. I have all the receipts and original manual and looks like he put 15 grand into this thing in the last 10 years just getting it buttoned up. It has a ton more life.
