Smokestacks are lame... As for a rebel flag I think I'll pass... What it could use are a pair of truck nuts and a GoPro mount 😉

Mom and Dad are finally downsizing and moving. In the midst of the purge, they let slip that they still had Grandpa's '97 F-150. It's been hanging out on the parking pad next to their house for the last 15 years. They were going to donate it to NPR. Guess again.
May I present 5550lb GVWR of pure farm truck. A super early, (4/96), 1997 F-150 XL. 4.2L V6, 4R70W auto, 4x2, bench seat, steel wheels, AM/FM, manual windows, manual locks, no A/C, no carpets, no cruise, no tilt wheel, sweet ass running boards, sweet ass mud flaps, sweet ass topper, sweet ass carpet remnants in the bed.
I threw some tires, an exhaust manifold, O2 sensor, 4 Rockford Fosgate 6x8 3-ways, a Kenwood digital head unit, some big ole truck mirrors, and a bench seat console in her.
Total cost $1,500. Actual value - Priceless.
Oh.... It also has 36,000 miles.
BAM!
She pulled fine up Parley's and spun an easy lap through Lowes.
Some homage.....
Bring on the fall Moab trips!

That's so weird these days seeing a long bed. My high school buddy had a Ranger long bed in the same color, no cap, stick... Always loved that truck.
I still call it The Jake.

Not a fan of the stubby beds but they tow just the same.
Cool truck. The running boards, not so much.

Oh. Good point. Still seems an suv would be a better choice

No kidding. When my college buddy hit the life insurance lottery he bought one of those quad cab 3' bed F-150s to tow his new wake boat. I always laughed when he bitched about not being able to "fit shit" into the minuscule bed on our trips to the lake. The resulting effect was to load the boat with so much shit that it looked like Sanford and Son on the way down.
I still call it The Jake.

Remember it is a 4x2 so don't push her too hard in the unitas. Plus I'm sure a socket wrench and a few minutes will save leaving them in some random beautiful place in the back country.
Fyi sub 6ft pickup truck beds are ghey and totally useless. It's the main reason I bought the 06 tundra. 6'3" sweet.Last edited by Skidog; 07-18-2016 at 08:19 AM.

Do yourself a favor, and look into POR 15. Get their kit, and follow the instructions. It will stop the rust from spreading, and may even reverse some of it in spots. If it is too far gone, just grind it and get some welds done before coating it. Time well spent for peace of mind. I did mine in sections. Now that I have a compressor, I might go back through it again, just to make sure I got everything.

Big Black now has a little brother: Little Blue
Little Blue was on craigslist for $950. It's dented and rusty, but it has 74,000 miles and it runs and drives great.
