I watched the start of the Chinese DH from chair 10. with the line that was waiting for me at the bottom of 2 and at the bottom of 4 I'm not so sure that you were doing it wrong.
I'll be staying in SLT for the next week with some friends from back east sampling all that Tahoe has to offer. If ya see an old man with BRO183s don't be afraid to say hi.

Pocket Sized
Thursday was very good too
Uncrowded. Sunny. Still pockets available off 10, when it eventually opened (Y'all might have to make it 10@11)
We weren't complaining
We would have headed to the backside, but there was a line for heading over there (2), and the snow in the trees, down low, on the way to the lift, was sticking to the bottom of my skis
A bad omen, we decided, and headed back to 10
Skiing down towards The Drain, from that gap in the rocks above it, we met a guy who said he didn't recognise where he was anymore because of the low snow levels there
We're off to Squaw then Sugarbowl this w/end, and staying at the crappy Cal-Neva Resort & Casino, in Crystal Bay fwtw.
Cheers!Last edited by TurxSki; 02-20-2009 at 07:31 PM.

Was running today. I bet next storm we will see bumps forming up that way. It will change things.
Can report that the snow is still nice. I killed Chair 7, then Chair 5. Buckboard was my bitch. Oh, and skied from the top. Even made a few turns off piste, then thought better of it.
It was kind of fun seeing my wife wiz by me when she agreed to join me on a run. She almost ditched me to ride 10 instead. So happy to just get back out there.
Maybe I will be up for powder this coming week.
Yeah, Powdork - Thunderbowl looks so nice. What time did you hit it? Heavy? Tempting.

Way to get after it man!
I think that the irony of the situation is that for you Buckboard is probably more dangerous than Zachary. I mean, flatter terrain probably means a harder fall yeah? So yeah ... Chair 7 is a "no-fall" zone for the next week for you
Anyways if I run into you tomorrow or Sun, first beer's on me!_______________________________________________

powdork, yep that was us in Thunderbowl.....
Today was pretty damn good but it worked the shit out of me. Rallied into West Shore with a lone semi-covered boarder track. I went last and managed to setoff a nice slide due to the awesome east wind buildup. Temple of Doom was pretty caked and fresh. Over to Thumderbowl, one of mates hucked a 40-50 footer to hot tub off the ledge skiers right to main Thunderbowl. Zippy and I hit v-tree.....untracked and proceeded to hit the skiers right of Spur untracked.....yes, it was fluffy.......

Interesting. How deep was the crown? Report seemed to indicate storm snow was bonding pretty bomber and gaining strength internally. Although the facet layer is still present down at the rain crust from Jan but gaining strength as well and very, very hard force necessary to cause failure and prop.
Just curious.
Avi report for today had some pretty sweet pics of a big slide triggered by a massive cornice drop up at Castle 2 days ago.

Definitely not down to rain crust. Skier triggered. North facing on an exposed ridge. About a foot or so deep. Hollow wind affected top snow layer they I knew was probably going to go. Many of the ridgetops had this type of snow....it wasn't until you got below in a protected area that the snow was soft.

Oh yea, for broken poles put the top half (with the pole strap) on the Snowshoe Thomson statue in front of the Blue Coyote for more snow!!!!

Thanks. Report today has 3 slides mentioned from yesterday (2 skier triggered) that went down to the rain crust facets. 3-6 foot crowns. N-NE steeper than 35.
Here is the video from the intentional cornice drop several days ago:

eagle bowl shitshow. kwood has the most retarded fucking policies w/ regards to opening shit up. when i go skiing thatsjust what i'm looking for. standing around waiting for the patrrollers radio to squawk and then elbowing and poling your ass off to get in front of the charging herd but making sure not to turn which would check your speed allowing the hordes to pass you leaving you in a blinding cloud of pow billowing up from all the fucking twintips. yeah, that shit is fun. thats the soul of skiing right there. and then when someone falls fuck'em and run em over. survival of the fittest and all that shit. and then the best part is talking about it on the internet. yay, i was in front of everybody. check me out i rip.

^ You forgot paying to park, waiting in the liftline for an hour and a half and then finally loading just in time for it to run in reverse. And hungry? Too bad. No more pork nachos.

Anybody else think that posting a "Low" hazard rating yesterday was a pretty significant oversight? It's at "Moderate" today. I mean, the SAC guys are human too, but still. Thanks for the vid link UCL. Scary stuff out there:
