Almost made it to the bottom of 9... Actually, we skied a 30 yard patch off to skiers left of chair 9, Saturday afternoon. I think he must have done 15 runs. We skied that patch out. By the end he could ski the entire patch with out falling and doing some wedge turns and stops. He will be stoked once the lifts are turning.
My wife decided she wanted to hike up to the top of 11, so I went with her and her friend. Nice relaxing pace. The wind had blown, but it was still decent.

lost hope
When the weather sucks I read the long term NWS forecast and there is almost always something changing. It looks as sad as I have ever seen it. Most seasons have some kind of hope like last year we had cold weather. But there are no signs for change any time soon. Below is the forecast for next week at this time.
MODEL DISCREPANCIES APPEAR BY MONDAY AS THE GFS AND ENSEMBLES BUILD THE RIDGE BACK NORTH ALONG OR JUST OFF THE WEST COAST WHILE THEEUROPEAN TRIES TO FLATTEN THE RIDGE SOMEWHAT AND BRING MORE ZONAL FLOW AND SOME CLOUD COVER TO THE AREA SOUTH OF A PAC NW SHORT WAVE. THEREFORE LITTLE CHANGES WERE MADE IN THE FORECAST WITH PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES ACROSS THE AREA.

realizing that SF is a far cry from Tahoe/Reno, but yesterday was straight T-shirt and shorts weather (i know, i hiked around Buena Vista hill with 20lbs on my back in just that).
other'n that i now have 4 bonus days saved up after working the past 2 weekends.

It's been pretty cold and crisp in Sacramento, which has given me a bit of hope, but the weather reports drain all of that right away.

Get out from under that fog layer, into the foothills, and its a different story. I rode the motorcycle up to 6000 feet yesterday and it was warm and sunny. The West slope is brown and completely clear of traces of snow. The north exposure has some white stuff, but jeeze, its December.

I'm wondering whether either our on-hill refresher or the team's opening day -- both scheduled for the new opening weekend -- will stay steady as well.
FYI, Alpine's blog has a bit of information on the inversion phenomenon.

yea, the inversion sucks. I woke up this morning in Chico(ie. the valley) and it was FRIGID. It was actually so unreasonably cold considering the latest weather trends that instead of getting stoked I was pissed because I knew it was good ol' inversion slapping me in the face.
