I used to work with (well, for) Costas. I don't think it's a piece, but there is no question that he is a short dude. 5'4" sounds right to me.

Actually an awesome guy who knows everything about sports, particularly baseball. I think he knows that he sounds like a schmuck when he does the studio stuff, but it's his job to "connect with casual viewers" and that's how NBC wants him to sound.
