WTF is it with sizes -- Or I came her for abuse

Up front I'll admit to being somewhat stout (6 ft. 220 lbs).

I see some arcteryx SK Pants for stupid cheap money on SAC and they only have XL short and XXL short. I say what the fuck even though there is no way I would describe myself as xxl short, based on their chart they look like they might fit if they run small.

I got them yesterday and they fit perfectly. So I guess I'm officially a overgrown fat dwarf, go figure. But for $80 I got a smoking deal on these things.

I hate sizing charts...they're NEVER right....

I always buy either JUST too small...or JUST too big...

    Effers....what about a "standard" XL...L...M....etc?

I always prefer my ski pants slightly big and I wear a belt. I also have been wearing Columbia Convert pants for the last few seasons - just seem to fit me right and are not too expensive.

So, my understanding is that most companies have an actually honest to god real life "fit model" for each size. I met Mr. Gap Medium down in Bolivia once. So the thng is that they pick there fit models based on target audience(ie outdoor brands tend to pick "fitter" people for each size). Now, most brands sizes have gotten much larger in the last decade, trying to keep us fat 'mericans feeling good about ourselves. mountain Hardware was one of the last holdouts in this trend and just last year finally udjusted there sizing up because they were losing sales when women would rather be a 6 then an 8. sounds like Arc might just still be holding out...

Related: I grabbed some Dakine Ventilator biking gloves off Chainlove, size XL (I have big hands... you know what they say, big hands, big gloves). I don't know who the "fit model" is they're using at Dakine, but he's got freaky small hands. These fit my fiance perfectly, who is a woman with average womanly hands.

In what universe is a men's XL glove sized to fit a lady's medium hand?

Related topic. One of my golf buddies is round. He loves Tommy Bahama shorts because he can wear a 40. Otherwise he's 42-44.

I've always worn medium Patagonia stuff. Always, whether it was regular or slim fit. Then, last month I ordered 5 shirts online, and they are all too big for me. Way too big. Did Patagonia up their sizes too?

why are all board shorts the same length no matter what size they are? And why is said size barely long enough to reach my knees?
