    Sick kitteh.

One of my house cats got in a fight with the new stray and has developed a high fever most likely from a bite. Called the on-call vet last night at 11:30p. She advised giving him some Buprenophine and bringing him in first thing. Needless to say I didn't sleep very well last night. Waiting for the vet to open. Time is crawling..........

Did the final judgement include Oreo being allowed to scratch that bitches face all up. What a jerk. “I have no proof that my dog did that”. Yeah Oreo just bit himself and broke his own back.

Just got back from the vet. Funny how the drive home is so much quicker than than the drive there.

Temp is 106 but he seems fine. I had another cat who had a temp of 103 and looked like he was on death's door.

Blood work came back good. He got sub-q fluids, antibiotics and and anti-inflam plus a hose down. I offered him wet food when we got home and he ate which is good. Vet is most worried about the fever which I will work to bring down by wetting him down a couple times a day (wet, let dry, take temp, if it is still up wet again etc.).

He does have a puncture wound on his hip. I think it is a claw not a bite as there is only one hole but hardly seems severe enough for this high of a fever and the vet agreed. Hoping this doesn't turn into one of those "fever of unknown origin." Dealt with that before in another cat and it is not fun. Basically you just wait and hope they recover.

Ever have a kitteh go on a zoomies tear for no apparent reason? Miss Mayhem tore through the house this morning like every demon ever was on her tail. She knocked over a lot of stuff and was banging into walls and doors. She made four complete circuits, and then took a nap like nothing happened. WTF??? We have not been feeding her catnip either. She just spazzed. No pics and no videos. She lives up to her name. I had to clean up the mess.

Good luck with the fever control.
Hope to hear good news this afternoon!

    Speaking of scratches and bites.
Little bugger got me real good last Friday.

Since I was already scheduled for a hand surgery (and most likely will be prescribed antibiotics), I didn’t bothered to see someone over the weekend.
On Monday before the hand surgery, my hand doctor kinda freaked out over the bites which... didn’t look so good.
He gave me an antibiotic IV and also prescribed antibiotics for a week.
He also sent me to a infectious diseases specialist because Jackson didn’t get rabies shot due to he was too young.
Long story short, I’m on antibiotics, as long as my bite wounds improve and if Jackson doesn’t suddenly dies next 10 days (from rabies), I should be fine.
Now he has first vet visit this Saturday.
    This is gonna be interesting.

Charley does that most mornings. Jumps two feet straight up then runs like a mofo into another room, then back out and jumps up to tag the wall. Goes on for a couple minutes, then nap time.

NMC, ya gotta watch out for infection when you get torn up badly like that. I don’t think cats wash their paws after using the litter box.

It was (or still is) pretty infected.
I only wished my right hand too don’t get out of commission and the boyfriend end up wiping my butt.
Seems like he won’t get that pleasure.

Sad part was when I called the shelter to find out about the rabies shot, after heard what happened, the immediately offered to take him back?
He’s just scared and needs more time.
Can’t believe something like this can be a reason to ditch an animal.

Ouch! That looks uncomfortable for sure. When you have cats that occasionally scratch Hibiclens is your friend. I always keep a bottle on hand and when I need to use it I give my scratch a good 60 sec scrub and either let it air dry or use a clean towel.

Re: sick kitteh - hoping the same. He seems totally normal which is so weird for such a high temp. He was begging to go out but that ain't happening. Can't get the new stray fixed soon enough!

I don't know what to do with this new stray. He's not full on feral mostly just scared and unsure. I've been working with him and can pet him and pick him up from the ground to place on a higher surface (trying to get him comfortable with the idea of being held) but only when I have my work gloves on. He is more comfortable with my gloved hand than my bare hand and since he is still doing the occasional claw bared swat I'm more comfortable too.

I need to find this guy a home but I don't want to place him somewhere where he is just cast aside.

My Lucy used to randomly do stuff like that. She also had a stuffed Easter rabbit, about 2/3rd her size, that was her nemesis. She would walk in a room, see it on the other side and go in to full attack mode. Charge is side ways, with her back arched and hair up, completely body slam it, wrap all four legs around it and do that wild hind leg scratch thing. Then she would throw it in the air, sometimes across the room, repeat the attack, then walk off like nothing ever happened. It was so bizarre and funny.

    Kitteh is so adorable!

    Rabbit kicking!

BTW - just the other day one of my outdoor cats suddenly went zooming around from tree to tree running up one trunk then down, across the barn yard and up another. She had her ears flat and tail crooked scurrying like a crazed beast!

Just took his temp and it's down to 104 so into the shower he went with me. He was not pleased and howled like a banshee. Now he's under the bed and wouldn't even come out for his favorite salmon dinner. I hate stressing him out like that but doctor's orders!

Geez, I know owning a horse is expensive, but your cats gotta be pretty close. Blood work, meds and emergency room visits and you've got several that you nurture. Good job.

Actually, no. I was going to take a shower so I stripped down and got in the shower with him. He howled a lot but was otherwise was pretty well behaved all things considered.

Temp still high this morning but he is behaving like he feels a bit better. Got him to at least lick at his food.

Yeah that little trip cost me over $300. Nothing like what Fugitive paid for Oreo though.

Squeak does it most every evening around dusk. Several laps up/down the stairs and around the house, then goes to her perch to monitor the perimeter. Usually about an hour later I hear a mournful wail, then find a stuffed animal or fox tail near my office door...

Bones the Bengal had a wild nature. If he wasn't already out he wanted out at dawn and dusk every day.
