Wish I had an answer for you. Maybe they need one of those cat house things where they can go outside but be in a large corral of sorts. Probably not cheap but maybe it would be a solution.

Yeah, I might have to screen in the back porch for them. I had hoped walking them would give them confidence and make them comfortable with being outside. I'll keep doing it but be much more careful not to get in the situation like yesterday.
They are very interested in the outside and like to sit in the windows looking out. They esp. love it when I open a window and they can lay against the screen.

Yep, keep working at it.
I am pretty lucky with mine. The boys I can let out and they pretty much stay in the yard with short forays into the neighbors. They are fairly cautious and will retreat to a safe area, usually up on the deck. The female how ever is overly curious and friendly. She will take off and explore or run under a moving car so I have to stuporvise her when she is out. They all have tended to stick closer to home as the years progress so it may take time.Last edited by scottyb; 03-15-2018 at 09:57 AM.

I think you need to try a bit less control and just let them figure it out. Let them outside, when they come home let them in.
I have never had a cat on a leash.
Mine is outside right now in a snow storm, but it's what he wanted to do. I wish he were inside. But he aint. He always comes home
Cats are Cats, they don't like to be controledOwn your fail. ~Jer~
