Yeah, it's not too bad as he hadn't bitten the end off before I got the cone on but cat teeth are sharp and he can do damage in a hurry. I had a soft cone ready for this. Soft cone works really well, it's easy to take on and off. It's strange but the cone has a calming affect. His skin stops twitching and he just goes to sleep. He eventually gets frustrated and miserable but I am able to take the cone off so he can eat and get a drink which he does without going crazy.
I'm guessing I can give him a shot at freedom in a couple days. I shaved the end of his tail so he can't get a hold of the fur.

4Matic - man, I think you are the only thing keeping Mr. Chao from a horribly painful life and demise. Bear the weight for him and all of us. That's a character trait you show, the want to help.
I would help you if you needed it, because of your actions in here. Admirable.
I'm getting older and well into crusty mode but still value highly, one's willingness to help the helpless.
And I think everyone digs Chao...

Marta's new digs. In the pump house.
Ramp up to loft with self heating bed/polar fleece blanket. Optional bucket of straw on floor. Litter pan, heated water and food.
Cat door isn't in yet so I've locked her in the last two nights which she is fine with. I leave the light on and have a backup LED night light should the bulb burn out.
I swear she used ro be someone's house cat. She has no problem being inside.

Every single guy who posts on TGR has the exact same fantasy: we all dream that one day we will just walk up KQ's driveway, knock on her door, and she will invite us to live with her forever.
These kittys are livin the dream !

Vibes for Mr. Chao. Such a great looking kitteh. You're doing good work 4matic, keep at it!!
Which reminds me, and this may have been discussed before about him: are there any options for ointments you apply to the tail that would discourage the behavior? Something bitter that would force him to let his tail be? BITD when I lived in a part of the SLC valley where chickens were OK we had a bunch of birds and there would always be one lady who was molting and had no tail feathers left. The others would attach the exposed skin ferociously, draw blood, and prevent new feathers from growing. I bought pine tar and applied it a couple times to the affected area, the other birds pecked at it once and spent the rest of the day trying to clean their beak. Pine tar is obviously not going to work on a house cat but something equally unpleasant to taste and not destructive to the house may be an option?
