Horrible day at Chateau TBS
In a total freak accident, Squeak slipped this AM when she jumped off our bed, caught her hind leg in some furniture and broke her femur, fibula, and tibia in a bunch of places. Commutated fractures.
She's 14. The choice was multiple pins, long convalescence and disability for the rest of her life, or euthanasia.
Just got back from escorting her over the rainbow bridge. Ms TBS is devastated, and I'm not feeling too great myself.
We had her for 12.5 years. Her first two humans were less than great. The first traumatized her, including a decision to cut off her claws then put her in a shelter when she peed in their closet in protest.
Her second human had to go to a memory center six months after adopting her. Back to the shelter.
She was fine with us, other than occasionally peeing outside her box. We kept her inside as there are owls, coyotes and mtn cats around. She had some nice perches to watch the deer and people go by. I sometimes felt bad keeping her indoors, but several friends here have lost their kitties to predators.
A little photo retrospective
As a young lady
Sitting in my home office window - she loved to scratch her chin on the shutters
She would fight the fox tail every night then sing the Song of Her People after winning
Do not bug me when I'm on our bed
Guarding Ms TBS' jewelry project. She would sit on her work, then leave metal beads around the house.
She would also sit on Ms TBS desk, next to the laptop's fan outlet, and "supervise" her work.
Miss ya kitty...

Funny thing, Squeak would never get in our laps - pretty sure it was because of mistreatment in first home. It was just in the last six months that she finally - after 12 years - started to sit right next to me on the couch or in bed. I'd pet her back then she'd fall over on her side, open up like ^^^ and let me scratch her chest and belly.

Awful situation, very sorry to hear this.

Fuck that is so sad. Not the kind of thing you'd expect to happen to a cat. Vibes to you and the family and props for giving her 12.5 great years.

Thank you all.
This AM was tough - she was great at making sure I was up by 0530.
If not I got a light pat on the cheek “excuse me human I can’t help but notice you haven’t fed and adored me this AM”.
Or at least that was my anthropomorphic interpretation…
We’ve always had good luck with “last chance” cats - four so far and all lived to mid-teens. Will probably do it again once we get over the grief. The act of adoring them is therapeutic
Thanks again - writing this is cathartic

That sounds like the best way to be woken up by a cat TBS.
Once again, I'm sorry for your loss
This little fucker, on the other hand, shouts loud enough to wake the rest of the house until he gets fed.

Miss Mayhem screams bloody murder when she wants something. We are in a situation where we have to sleep with our door open. Which means she wanders in and wakes us up at weird hours if bored. Flip side is heat issues during this cold snap and the dog will complain if the door is closed because he likes to get up and leave our room. He wanders sometimes at night. And wants to look for the kids who are away at school. Their doors have to be open too so he can be sure they aren't home. He doesn't care about thing#3 who happily closes his door.

Peydro is not the quietest. The other two are quieter. One of them has taken to perching at shoulder height on a bannister and swatting at anything that comes by..
Dogs are not allowed in the people house.

Toy Poodle. He's a knucklehead. We still love him. And that's not a chair. It's a dog bed that he begrudgingly let's us sit in, mostly because we're bigger than he is and we feed him. Of course once you sit down he will pester you until you put him in your lap. He's 12 and has a bum knee. He can barely jump up to the chair when it's empty.

I hear ya. Two of the cats have decided the comfiest corner of the couch is their domain.
Peydro is a tripod and demands to be carried up the stairs after coming down every time the door opens.
He rocks though. Pretty much indestructible.
