There was a freeride comp in Tamokdalen eater of 2007, but it seems their web page isn't there anymore, so my guess is they went out of business.
This year there was the Bergans Mountain Attack, kind of a ski touring "festival", with 1 class for people in spandex, bicycle helmets, toothpicks and slippers, and 1 class for everybody else. Didn't attend to it myself, but it was at Blåtind, which is "hopefully" the arena if Tromsø gets the winter olympdicks in 2018.....I guess there's always hope and prayer
Anyways, the lyngsalps is pretty much a touring festival from feb to june
On a side note, Tromsø has approved prans for a new lift system, which according to the meda whores, will be operational in the 2009 season.
That is all for nao!

GC it wasn't that bad Damn expensive here..
One way to get your cost down is to choose a touring specific trip. Honestly the ski resorts here don't hold a candle to what you'll be used to in the US or mainland Yurp. The touring opportunities are really good though.
Since someone mentioned that distances aren't exactly trivial it could be best to choose a target area - Lyngen, Romsdalen, Sunnmøre, etc. In those areas you can still rent a cabin for little money and drive to different start points for great tours.

I live in Oslo and can always provide some info... MT has some good experience from the Narvik area..

Hey if you are going to be in the Stavanger area then I can hook you up with my cousin. He is an amazing skier(though he is a Telemark skiers ) but he can show you around and he pretty much lives to ski. I have only skied in the summer there so it was only BC stuff in the Sirdal region. Amazing place though and the snow goes for miles and miles.
If you are still in Oregon drop me a PM! Always a bed open for a fellow skier if you need. Cheers!!!

bumpity bump.
Will be heading up to lofoten area first week of May...
Any idea as to what snow conditions to expect? Should I be bringing skis that can handle pow, or at this point, will I just be skiing spring conditions?

My experience skiing up there at the end of April was that the snowpack was going fast. Still skied pow up high but was getting springlike at the bottom. Depends on what your ski choices are I guess (and of course the weather...).

Yeah the 86s are my tiny summer skis. Will be sticking to Lofoten area since I have a buddy in those parts who will be sailing around.
Will probably bring the Ravens.
