TR: July Skiing, Mt. St. Helens - 07/01/08

    Edited to add video -

It's getting near the end of Volcano Season in the PNW so a group of us decided to make the drive over to St. Helens and get our last run in. It was a smokey day with all the fires in California sending their smoke our way. It was probably a good thing in one way as the filter caused by the smoke kept the snow pretty nice. We had awesome corn from the top down to about 4,800' and then just a little sticky from there down to around 4,200' where we ran out of skiing. Still, we had snow all the way to the Marble Mountain SnoPark lot. Climber's Bivouac was still closed so we had the extra vert and miles to cover. And now for the pictures...

5:17 AM...Does my camera really say this? Good God, I should still be sleeping....

And so it begins....Robert staring at his feet.

    We have target acquisition.....

How can I be smiling? What was I thinking when I agreed to this???

Group shot at the crater rim

Inside the crater. Can't even see Spirit Lake with all the smoke.

    At the edge, looking east

Remnants of the cornice, actually inside the crater; don't step out there!

Ah, now I remember why I climbed this thing...

Get closer to the rock!!.....but don't hit it, stupid.

    Bob during the harvest

Another shot in front of the camera by a very big hole..

    And yet a another shot...

    Scott on the tele's

    Yet another Scott Shot

And back to the ranch for some food and some beers...

I switched most of the pictures over to Photobucket on this. Also, below is a video will also be part of a show, Northwest Ski Adventures, on NWCN and RSN next winter.

All in all, a great day in the mountains. Thanks to Rossignol and Back Country Access for providing us skis and skins. Three of us skied the new-for-next-year Rossi Phantom 80's and loved 'em. They sent their new Bandit Free Rando bindings with them and with the Low Fat skins from BCA, it was a sweet setup. I'll get some great use out of these next season.

    Sweet TR! Making me jealous.

Anyone know how late into the summer Adams is skiable?

    Solid work!
Scooter and Potato are two superb guys that I hope to be getting overserved with at Noah's next week.

Did Peak video that to be aired on Hidden Runs or one of their other shows?

Edit: oh, now I see where it's being aired.
    Great viddy too!
