Hiking with Infant (9mo) - how long is too long?
My wife and I broke in our baby carrying backpack on an 11 mile hike which lasted roughly five hours and it went really smoothly(about a month ago). Later she commented it was a bit long. We'd done this hike a dozen times in the few summers past so her comment surprised me. I suggested another hike this coming weekend which is roughly 10 miles total and she commented it was a bit long as well. He didn't squawk a bit on the 11 mile hike except when he was hungry. Frustrates me to the point I want to say eff it and just go with my son and leave my wife at home for a hike. Am I setting the bar high or is this too long for a 9 mo old child to be in a pack?

I doesn't matter how old you are, no one wants to be in a pack for 5 hours.

Regardless of whether or not it was too long for the kid...I think you should say FUCK IT and go it alone with your son. Leave the old lady in the kitchen where she can bitch all the she wants and enjoy some good quality time with your son, while he's too young to be able to avoid it.

Rent a Bobcat then strap yourself in and operate it for a day in some lumpy turf.
Then sit down and have a brew and a heart to heart with your kid.
