TR: Independence Pass June Pow: 6/6/08

Well, it rained all day down in the valley, must be snowing somewhere....

while not as deep and powdery as we had fantasized, being June we happily accepted 4-5 inches of warmed butter with a side of windslab.

Looks like we're the first ones to the lot. HORDES to follow.

Windy. Very windy and cold. I thought it was June...

    To the summit of Blarney

Blue looking good. We went up there after skiing Blarney. Had ideas of skiing the couloir but Lou Dawson beat us to it. bastard.

Grizzly looking nice. Note the slide in the bowl.

Close up of Grizzly. Someone needs to ski that (Lincoln creek rd is closed but looks plowed- bring a bike?) I can't ski this weekend...

    no hucking, sorry

first tracks for me! "uh cuz i'm the cameraman?"

    sooooo nice and buttery. Dave:

    Chad:

skins back on and up to Blue, windy again

There was a nasty windslab on this northeast face just under the saddle, ended up booting the rocks.

    More wind

Tiny people on Geislers below. looks nice

    Williams?

Turns out what we wanted to ski wasn't really in. The other best options had been skied by a few folks already, so we ended up downclimbing to this little gully that we hoped held some snow.

    Found the snow

    Me and Zora

Wind affected there in the middle, but the lower part was sweet.

LOTS of other folks up there getting after it today- I'd love to see some photos.

We got snow in the PNW as well but we can't see the fracking snow because of the fracking rain! I'm getting a ticket to CO.

Hell yes, glad to see some pics. I was there this morning, but didn't end up taking any shots. Definitely a great day!!! I skied the slacker lines around snow fence, dropping west. I'm still in disbelief that it all happened. It is really June 6th, right?!? Today was a good day by February standards...
Skiing, whether you're in Wisconsin or the Alps, is a dumbass hick country sport that takes place in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.

No doubt about it, that's nothing but good ol' fashioned high quality work right there.

Many thanks. Great photos! Very crisp. What are you shooting with?

Yep, that would be unnamed 13,382 with the main SE-facing couloir being 40* for 800 vertical.

RT from Lost Man Reservoir would be about 9 miles.

    Nice Shots,

You'll be happy to know we did get to Grizzly Chute on Sunday 6/8/08. Via Independence Creek. Long day but well worth it.
