Kala Noodle on Belmont is also super underrated. I'd happily eat there in place of pok pok. The traditional specials that rotate through their menu are amazing.

I never knew Podnah's was by Double Mountain ownership. Sweet BBQ. I like that Thai \ chicken plan a few doors down too.

Had to stay away from Thai due to peanut allergy. Great night. Thanks for all the suggestions. At Besaws with a bloody.

If you want a killer breakfast/brunch check out Cafe Broder on SE Clinton. Swedish restaurant. Smoked trout, ramp and farm cheese egg bake, incredible bread with lingonberry jam and aquavit bloodys.

That's when she tried telling me that they're making just as good a bourbon in Portland these days that they are in Tennessee. I said, you mean Kentucky? She said yeah, one of those long states.

I asked her coworker to make our drinks. Good luck.
    Kinda pretentious?

Yeah, it was a real special kind of pretentious. She led straight off with it and didn't let off the throttle one bit the whole time we were at the bar. It was as if someone 15 years her senior was incapable of knowing anything beyond her infinite knowledge.

The real kicker was, on top of her ignorance of bourbon's provenance and her insistence that absolutely everything worthwhile was either original to PDX or being produced there now, was that when we asked her where she liked to travel she said in a flat response, "I've actually only been to San Francisco but after I graduate (Reed College) I totally plan on living abroad.

Our bartender at the Driftwood Room assured me that chicken and waffles originated in PDX.

Ha! I think the rightmost caption is on point, but I would caption the left like this:
    -dysfunctional municipal government
    -human feces on street
    -car / catalytic converter theft
    -used needles in the parks

I think you forgot massive graffiti, and an exponential increase in shootings

It’s been a few years but I couldn’t believe 82nd ave last time I was there compared to the 80’s. Prime example of gentrification. Eg: north Portland and SE.
