I’m in FL, they cheer on this type of behavior.

Where in FL are you? Seems like every time I am hanging with my Lt cop buddy he gets a call about another scooter accident or other incident. Those rentals aren't long for St Pete I think. If someone comes even close to hitting my kid on one of those, there is going to be a big problem. Law here is they need to ride on the street in the bike lane, but we see morans on the rentals zipping in and out of pedestrians on the sidewalk all the time.

I’m in Gulf Breeze so it’s pretty open and suburban. I’m not riding down sidewalks with kids around, it’s more of a multi use path.

It really is a special place where stupidly and reckless is just part of living here.

I didn't see one scooter on a sidewalk in Paris, I guess they cracked down pretty hard. The streets however were like mad max.

I'm still at a LO$$ as to why cities are allowing people to ride those electric scooters on public roads in traffic but not requiring the same helmets 30 mph max gas engine scooter riders have to wear... Could it be because that entire BU$INE$$ model is fucked if drunk people staggering down the street can't get on one unless there is also a helmet available with it so they paid off the city councils to look the other way about helmet LAW$?? Naw, couldn't be..

IMHO - If you’re going to buy something and can afford it, a budget hub drive eBike (Rad, Aventon, etc…) is a much better buy. Range, capacity, speed, etc…
But the rental scooters are fucking killer for that “last mile” transportation sector. Last week I was in downtown Sac for business and had a meeting across town from my hotel - I just hopped on a bird and scooted over.
They do attract dickheads. I may or may not have been in a large crew of drunk dickheads on rental scooters during a bachelor party not long ago…
…but they are a great product when used responsibly….

I think there's some confusion on the term "scooters".

SCOOTERS?
Anyone here have a scooter? (Vespa, Honda, whatever.)
$4.20 gas prices = $50+ per week in gas just to commute to work. A 100mpg scooter, with no insurance/ registration/ license costs, has some appeal.
Wondering about 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke, real usability of a 50cc motor for in-city use, and other n00b questions.
(and yes, I know, it's the ultimate in dorkiness...)
Its why i like adding a pic
