since everyone else seems to be getting travel advice

I've got a free trip to NY coming up in June. I'll get there on a thursday morning, leave on a sunday afternoon. I'm planning on seeing a few of the touristy things (strawberry fields, the MET, empire state building etc.), but I'm wondering if anyone had some ideas for places that are a little less conventional. I'll be taking along my camera gear with me, and my main focus on the trip will be getting a ton of interesting pictures, and not just of the typical stuff. any suggestions?
