Saw that last night, Kinda re-thinking my manliness, maybe I should step up and start running the upper B and the N Fork take my beatings and start calling myself a creeker.
I like how it turns into a club boater thread, thats BT is so cool. It’s the places you ride that are special, not you riding there.”

I think the linked thread is the equivalent to us ranting about JONGs over their heads in avy terrain... but good lord is it poorly written...

No kidding. It took me a couple of passes to decipher exactly what he was talking about. I can see why he was pissed though. Standing around doing nothing, while someone is in a head under pin situation is roughly equivalent to standing around after watching someone get buried by an avalanche and discussing the playoffs.
Although the poster jonged the pin victim for going over the drop backwards, it's probably what saved her ass. Nose up in a vertical pin you've got a shot at getting out on your own. Nose down with the water on your back, it's pretty much game over."I just want to thank everyone who made this day necessary." -Yogi Berra

^^^
Yeah, the drop in question used to be a great boof, but the launch pad and the LZ have deteriorated fiercely over the past few years with high water events. I can see going over backwards helping her in the situation, but going over pointed downstream and in control might be a better option than rolling the dice backwards. Just sayin'. (not that you're advocating running nasties backwards)
The scenario does seem similar to riding the BC w/o avy gear and training/practice/the lowdown. Similar in regards to the unpreparedness to deal with a life-threatening situation; similar in regards to overall skill, experience, and knowledge required to safely and successfully navigate the run; and similar in that it gives local kayakers a bad name within the community when something does happen (like SAR being called out for every stubbed toe). A bad scene all around. It is only a matter of time...Last edited by NlytendOne; 05-22-2008 at 12:52 PM.
