That and their subs are still conundrums to me. Both excellent but found where you’d least expect it.

Best fried chicken I’ve ever had is at Serenbe Farms, a kind of Blackberry Farms style agri resort in Georgia (albeit on a much smaller level). Alton Brown and Oprah (take the second for what it’s worth) have both said it’s the best they’ve had.

    Would recommend.

Sounds like some expensive fried chicken.

Id say Prince's has better fried chicken than Publix. That's hot chicken though and different all together.

Publix is my grocer of choice. Not as pretentious as Whole Foods or Fresh Market and not a ghetto like Kroger.

Yeah it wasn’t cheap but it was pretty awesome chicken.

I could start a whole thread on the Whole Foods/Publix/Kroger/TJs problem I deal with on a weekly basis.

Just once I would like to not have to go to each one once a week.

There's this chain of kinda food/convenience stores like WaWa or Sheetz in this region called Royal Farms and for chicken you can buy at a place that also sells gas and condoms it's good as shit. Like crazy good.

when I was a kid before we had a KFC we had Chicken Delight, it was around till the late 70's then closed when the Colonel came to town. They kept another place open the next town over that I think is still there.

Another good place we had was The Broaster House, they used a pressure cooker/fryer thing to cook chicken, I think it may have been a franchise place with their own special cookers.

I don't know what the difference between a KFC cooker and a Broaster but I see you can still buy the officially trademarked Broaster equipment.

Back when Arlington Virginia was kind of a redneck slum there was Whitey's. Cheap beer and Broasted Chicken.

What region is that? I've never heard of Royal Farms

I love me some good fried chicken (and waffles if possible)

Mid-Atlantic. I'm in Maryland right now. Royal Farms are like south Jersey and PA, DE, MD and VA. Their website says they have 219 locations but I only know where like 5 of them are.

No Royal Farms down here. We have a ratty gas station that makes fantastic fried chicken, though. Across the street is an even rattier gas station. In the back a little Mexican lady makes tamales that will knock your calcentines off.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Bought a bird and some buttermilk today, thinking of frying some tomorrow. Anyone have a favorite recipe or method? I don't eat fried chicken often so aren't too picky.

    Looking at this currently:

    https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/...en-recipe.html

Finishing it in the oven is new to me.

    mmm...Fried Chicken...

When we lived in Denver, we were fans of The Post Brewing Company off Broadway. We lived in Platte Park and it was a quick hop over. I would suggest it.

They do a good Nashville hot as well and green chili Mac and cheese

I always break the bird down making an effort to leave the skin intact as much as I can. Then I season generously with salt, white sugar, pepper, and paprika. It goes into a bag in the fridge for a few hours. An hour or so before I fry I add some buttermilk to the bag just to get everything wet. A half hour before frying the parts go into flour seasoned with the same mix as the dry rub. Coat the pieces carefully and thoroughly and let them rest on a plate until frying time. Gotta let em rest cuz that's what helps the flour stick to the bird just nice. Fry at like 360 until they're done.
