Strip it. Clean it. Oil it. If gas operated I would verify gas block and tube are clear. Cycle it. Load one round and shoot it.

Arm chair quarterbacking as I never been on a two way range but the majority response I'm hearing from combat vets is the early AM warrant executions are a recipe for disaster. That they have their place when you're dealing with on edge combatants. But in the US, the more favorable is to serve warrants when they're out and about in public rather than their "fortified and stocked" home where the perp is most aware and has access to his cache. I find myself agreeing and a lot of these are just the DA or whomever waving their dick around and trying to get cool guy points.

To add...
Whatever the fuck happened with that Florida nuclear level fuck up involving the dead UPS driver and innocent bystander in the car?
Where's any news on that investigation?

I have various guns which would work fine for a home self defense gun for me. 12 gauge semi autos and pumps, polytech AK, Mini 14, .45 1911, 686+. I need a gun which my wife can shoot and not be intimidated by. I’ve been intrigued by the Berreta CX4 in 9mm. It takes 15 round 92 mags (CO is a 15 round limited mag state). It seems like a good shooter and is really compact. It would be my go to defense gun. I can’t have a bunch of loaded guns stashed away anymore. I have a 7 year old boy, and we’d put a biometric lock on it, or get a hidden furniture spot for it. Any input on this gun?

.38s in the 686? No mags, slides, safeties, or potential jams to deal with. Pull the trigger and it shoots. If it doesn’t, pull the trigger again. My little lady (5’2” and 125) started with .38s in my 686 and now asks for .357s when she shoots it.
And I’m not one to say don’t buy another gun.

My nightstand rig is a CX4 in 9mm. I used to stash a custom 12 ga 870, but the CX4 is more user friendly: The recoil of a BB gun, compact, not loud, and fun to shoot at the range. It's beer can accurate out to 100 yds and I actually hunt cottontails and also shoot gophers with it (124 gr white box Winchester 9mm NATO). 20 rounds of 124 gr. HST +p are plenty to stop any chicken coop shenanigans by the local predators. Only drawback is the trigger sucks big hairy balls out of the box but there's an easy tune that makes a huge difference.
I've got a MRO red dot and a streamlight on it.

^^^ You keep that in your nightstand? Must be quite an impressive piece of furniture.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.

9mm carbine is always an appealing concept to me. Have not really heard anything good about the CX4. I heard that due to the plastic stock that they are bendy.

I've always looked at .44 mag levers longingly so I get the desire.
