The Ukraine thread is getting cunted by gun nut LARPers*, so trying to bring the discussion here.
The reason why a populace armed with pistols, rifles, and shotguns is dead against a military like Russia is your gun doesn't protect you from artillery or starvation. The military will cut you off, starve you out, and, if Russian, shell the shit out of your neighborhood from 15 km away. You're gonna be dead, or hungry and voluntarily disarmed.
Carry on. Sorry for not personally insulting anyone. I do note Leroy posted on the first page of this thread, so this is surely a better place to discuss the superiority of a small-armed populace against a mechanized army.
* looks like I left an opportunity for folks to self-categorize and be personally insulted. OopsLast edited by LongShortLong; 03-26-2022 at 11:49 PM. Reason: You ask of my love of guns? I own none. Last gun I fired was an air-pump pistol with laser sight. bang bang

This thread ain’t the place for this bullshit either. Start your own argue with Leroy thread if you must, or take it to PM.

A small arm might not take out a tank, but it's good to have when you're robbing an armory.

Looking for a shotgun to start shooting some skeet. I keep trying for a 25" Wingmaster on gunbroker and getting outbid. Budget around $1k but can stretch if needed. Should I just keep trying to snag a decent Wingmaster or is anything more readily available comparable?

Aghh, which shotgun for Skeet shooting? That is a tough question and the flavor of the day changes over time.
As mentioned, fit is the too consideration. Some shotguns point well for some and not others. I started shooting skeet with a Browning Citori 20 years ago when over/unders were the rage. I used the Cotori until my FIL bought me a 60 year old Winchester Model 12. The gun pointed like a dream for me and they are all I use when I shoot, which is bot often since kids arrived.
If you like the Wingmaster, then you like pump guns. I like how the Wingmaster points. I love how the Model 12 points. The Model 12 has bot been made since the 60s but is known to be the highest quality pump ever made. For decades they owned the Skeet fields.
There are books written on the model 12 and all its variations. I have a couple of 12 gauge field grade shooters I use, and love the looks on guys faces when they realize I'm using a $250-$700, sixty to seventy five year old Model 12 and holding my own.
Be aware not all pumps schuck as smooth as the next. Some have catches while others are smooth as silk and nearly schuck themselves. Look around, visit lots of gun stores and dont be afraid to buy and sell if you have the time for it. You should be able to find a very nice M12 shooter in Mod or IC (rarer) well under $1000. I would expect the same for a Wingmaster. Once you start talking about authentic Skeet guns the $ and number of shots through them increase quickly.
Personally, I like a 26 or 28 inch barrel as they are more versatile when you use the gun for Sporting Clays as well.
Glad to see someone who appreciates a pump gun.

Roommate in college had one of these. I doubt it will stay anywhere near the opening price, but a very sweet gun.

I learned on a wingmaster and I haven't shot it since I bought a used 12g+20g set franchi (pre buyout 1999 upper end model without a name) over under 20 years ago.
I have a soft spot for pump shotguns but use an over under for a while and you won't go back.
Fit is a huge factor, more than anything.

Trap and skeet are both games where you want to "groove your swing". Golfers spend a lot of time building repeatable swings, and so do skeet and trap [target] shooters.
Equipment helps a lot. In general, target shotguns will have longer barrels than field shotguns [or heaven forbid defensive shotguns]. Most competitive skeet shooters swing an OU with 28"-32" barrels, because of crossing shots. Most trap shooters need to be smoother, and you'll see longer barrels of 30"-34" with high ribs for ascending going-away targets.
Sporting clays was invented to mimic field conditions and shots. Even so, dedicated clays guns are target shotguns, usually with 28" or 30" barrels.

Put me on that list. Been shooting an 870 for skeet and sporting clays for years. Always loved the beretta 686 but never shot well with them. I do like the citori and shoot well with them. Nothing beats the feeling of out shooting some tool using a $10k custom fitted gun with my $200 870. It really pisses them off. The only downside is sporting clays where having a 2nd choke would be helpful for targets down range but then I just drop in a tighter choke and try not to be sloppy on the first shot.

Ha, you are so right. I always found Skeet and Trap boring for the reasons mentioned above, the swing and shots are repetitive, and the best skeet shooters are mechanical. Probably the same reason I never loved golf, it is all about being mechanical, with too few variables.
Now Sporting Clays are a whole different ball game. What a ton of fun SC is. When I started shooting SC 32 inch O/U were the rage. Sometime in the past 10-15 years semi autos started to become all the rage.
I loved when my FIL and I would be able to go out as a twosome and blast away at SC with full choke M12s, turning Clay's to dust at 40 yards. At least every 3rd or 4th time we went we'd get grouped up with 3 or 4 guys who shot together regularly and did not know us. My FIL would carry one of his M12s with thin walled Breilly chokes and I would carry either my handsome 28 inch full choke field grade M12 or my much less handsome apparently oft carried and dinged, but seldom shot 1950s Modified choked field grade M12. It was quote common for the other shooters to eye our 70 yr old pumps and discount us as real shooters. Most days, by the 5th or 6th station they were asking us what model shotgun we were using as they put their 10k Krieghoffs and italian O/Us back into their protective sleeves to be strapped into their gun carts. In the end, most of the guys were cool and several of the old timers would start to reminisce about how they had a model 12 back in the day.

Heads up. Scuttlebutt is that ATF is going to issue a preliminary ruling on pistol braces in the next few days. Implementation to follow.
https://orchidadvisors.com/atf-sets-...brace-rulings/
Suspicion is that it will redefine the pistol brace and convert many "braced" firearms into a NFA firearm. If this occurs, the question will be whether the braced firearms are grandfathered, contraband, or whether an amnesty to register will be granted (especially considering that ATF initially blessed them).
The next expected item is to change the serialization of AR rifles from the lower receiver to the upper receiver.
WTFKs what ATF will do.In order to properly convert this thread to a polyasshat thread to more fully enrage the liberal left frequenting here...... (insert latest democratic blunder of your choice).
