    David Grisman?

Figured this would be a good place to ask.

Anyway, only a somewhat casual fan but I got Acousticity at the thrift store on tape and fucking love it. The kind of Grisman that I can get into. Anyway, the lineup on this album is Grisman, Wasserman, Buchanan, and Sholle. Can anyone put me in the direction of any live recordings with this lineup? The album was put out in 1985. Pick it up if you don't have it yet.

    thanks

I did a search to deflect any flack. This doesn't have the all the line up you're looking for and I'm sure you know of this one... however that may be:

    Old & in The Way

David Grissman, Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements

    an all time favorite.

saw Vassar Clements at The Shaboo so many frkn years ago. Very small bar in NE Ct. back in the seventies where a lot of GREAT bands sweated out the most unfucking believable talent in this small smokey venue. Vassar made me cry. Sumtn about the fiddle that does that. Holy fkn shit did that guy rip.

If you don't have this album, you need it

and yeah david and the other guys, they're ok Rowan's voice on this is really smooth

So Phish, are you specifically looking for David Grisman Quintet style, which has sort of a jazz thing going on? Or are you looking for any live Grisman? I have some but it is definitely more on the folk/bluegrass end of the spectrum.

Grisman's DGQ20 discography has some recordings with this line-up--cant recall if they are live-but a lot of the tracks are.

I think Grisman keeps a pretty tight reign on his live recordings.

Nothing new--but if you dont have the Pizza Tapes release get it. Grisman, Rice and Garcia -good intimate stuff from Grisman's home studio. Rumor is the tape originally circulated after a pizza delivery boy stole the recording off of Garcia's counter.

David Grisman Bluegrass Experience is a killer album if you are interested in a traditional bluegrass style. Saw them at Rockygrass and they were very tight.

If your looking for the jazzier stuff and don't have the self titled "Jerry Garcia/David Grisman" (pink album) definitely pick it up. Titles like Dawg's Waltz and Arabia stand out.

Also I'm sure you've seen the documentary "Greteful Dawg" (out on Sony and made by grisman's son), but if you havn't it is a must see for ANY lover of great acoustic music- following the whole garcia/grisman relationship from old and in the way->garcia/grisman->not for kids only etc. It is awesome and the soundtrack rocks too.
