Tuckerman's
Has anyone heard about how Tuckerman's is this year or how it will be?

Is this it?
Battle lines being drawn, nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong, old people speaking their minds, getting so much resistance from behind.

Was up in the Bowl for a Avi class 3 weeks ago and the bowl looked real full. A bunch of rain, freeze cycles have built a super solid rain crust base. Should be a good, long season.

Tuckerman Ravine in New Hampshire is a great place for spring skiing. Best times to go are in April to May. It's about a two-hour hike in from the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center to the caretaker's cabin on Hermit Lake (HoJO's) then a 45 minute hike into the bowl itself. Best way out is to ski back to Pinkham Notch on the Sherburne Trail which takes about 30 minutes. If the Sherburne is closed, it's a 2-hour hike out.
Hiked up to HoJo's last Saturday. Considerable avalanche danger in the bowl and, being solo, did not go any further. Sherburne had good cover but, since it was raining that day, conditions and visibility were tricky. From what I could see though the fog and the reports I've been reading, looks like good cover in the bowl. It should be a good spring skiing season. I'm planning to head back sometime in mid-April. Check out www.timefortuckerman.org for info.

darkknight, if you haven't figured it out, i'm pretty sure you were getting ribbed for putting the possessive "apostrophe-s" on tuckerman (which isn't there, but alot of people tack on anyway)

Threadjack:
I'm headed out east for a first time to attempt a decent or ten of the ravine in April and am not sure what gear to bring. AT set up: Movement Pow-Pow ltd's, Naxos and Adrenalines (skins?) or alpine gear?

many people do the ravine with straight alpine gear. if the trail to the ravine is snowpacked, skins can't hurt (to make your life easier), but by late april don't count on snow down to the valley.

The Hermit Lake Shelters are accessed via the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. Beginning at Pinkham Notch (el 2,032 ft) on Route 16, this trail ascends to Hermit Lake (el 3,875 ft) in 2.5 miles. Approx hiking time is 2 hours.
1800 v.f. and 2.5 miles in 2 hrs? CORE to the CORE!! (couldn't resist).
