    Teton TR: Banana Couloir 2.29.08

Ever since I was a bellboy @ the Amangani I've looked at Prospector Mountain and wanted to ski the Banana Couloir (3,200' vert) on the mountain's southeast face. On Friday, Sherpastyle and Coolstine joined me.

The route leads from the broad summit of Prospector's and is in the middle.

We were able to skin all the way to the summit, though things got a bit spicy in spots, with 2" of windbuff on a firm crust.

The summit had great views to the north and got me really fired up to go ski the South Teton.

    The top 1/3 was pow.

The remainder was, something else - kinda corny/slushy/crusty

We had a longish out, though Turiano's guide says that this route is one of the most difficult routefinding adventures in the range and took him 4 tries before a successful descent. All in all, a mellow day and a nice kickoff to the spring touring season.

hijack - what's the deal with the "Jackson - soon to be Texas" location?

Thanks for posting that picture of me showing off my beatering duck walk steeze, Colin! I know its cause you're pissed that I missed that perfect photo op of you on 4 Pines today. I'm still kicking myself for that...

Yep, twas a super fun day. It was good to get out in the park again and go for a decent tour. I've been sorta slacking this year. Too much vacationing...

Strong work, Colin. Damn, it's a shame that the Sierras have been serving up storm after weekend storm and have been giving me an incentive to stay somewhat local instead of flying out JH.

Thinking spring slayage, when I hope my leg will be in somewhat touring shape -- come down to CA. I will get my hands on a Cowboys Starter jacket if it will make you feel more at home.

That's because I will be moving to Dallas around April 15th, just in time to miss an epic Teton touring season - totally sweet.

I plan to gorge myself on snow in all its forms for the next 45 days.

    Skibum...

I made it up there about a month ago. Climbed moratorium and sendero, and tried to get up one-armed bandit but the crux was not in. I thought you left cody??

I'll be back either this weekend or the next. How are things looking?

Its like a twelve step program. Except, instead of moving toward sobriety, you're moving toward Tempe. I like it!

Nice TR Colin! Must feel so good to get after something you wanted for sometime.

You've still got 1.5 months to get in as much skiing as you can.
