My daughter is basically your kid at age 12. She now skis all terrain is better than most adults. She is starting to jump off things. Be careful what you wish for.....
I mean its fun, I am just worried about where it ends if she is skiing everything and anything at age 12 and is super stubborn and competitive. She just got some Icelantic Shamans, curious to see the liftline conversations to come about those things.....

Actually, I was being kind. His daughter is a self-absorbed, spoiled rotten snot nose jerk. But hey it is not her fault. Her parents lack the ability and skills to raise children and should stop breeding .
The adult made a simple comment in a kind gesture. Even a NYer is not going to dog a child. The child should have answered the question respectfully. When she responded as the OP stated, the OP should have apologized to the adult, made the child apologize to the adult, taken the child inside, and gave her a good spanking and lecture.
Now, lets look at the facts. His hot shot little skier could not stand up in a lift line. A ripper she is not. I doubt that Vonn is tripping over her skis in a lift line.
What upsets me is that this poor excuse for a parent applauds poor behavior. It is why I home school my kids. It is why the majority of kids don't obey or listen. It is why the majority of kids are self-consumed with their own greatness. It is why you cannot enjoy a meal at a restaurant, if kids are there.
So, I apologize for being hard on the brat, because the really problem is the OP.

Y.A.R. = Youth at Risk = No respect for their elders = At least this is the beginning of the cycle, where it ends is up to the parent, until the teens and then it's too late. My daughter had a friend like this, it was cute until she hit 13 and then her life went downhill. She simply didn't think she needed to listen to anyone. Bklyn is right it's funny but not to be rewarded, unless you want her treating you as a parent this way when she gets a little older.

I'll admit I'm with CU... while perhaps a spanking might be a bit overboard, I would have admonished my child for being substantially less than respectful to an elder. Doesn't sound like she was kidding... and I thought it was on the arrogant side. I'd have dished a little humble pie on my son if he'd come out w/something like that.
When logic goes out the window, go with it.

YOUR parents should be embarrassed that their self-rightous little prick of a son can't even enjoy the company of kids, and that his idea of parenting is locking them away from society and telling them to obey and listen.
You are way out of line to attack a 12 year old girl for sporting a little attitude in the lift line, and even more our of line to throw insults at her. Ten bucks says you home school your kids because you got your ass kicked on a regular basis when you were in school! You're cruising for another one here.

... train wreck...
I'm just a simple girl trying to make my way in the universe...
I come up hard, baby but now I'm cool I didn't make it, sugar playin' by the rules
If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.

OK, MFs she did not call the NYer douche nozzle she just stated that she could ski better. Lighten up.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Theres alot of Armchair parenting going on around here. But seriously wouldnt you be embarresed/pissed if some new york gaper thought u were an even bigger gaper than them doesnt really matter what age you are I could see how the kid needed to stand up for her skiing ability.

OK shit to hopefully clear things up with any haters...my daughter is the most kind and sweet little girl, there is honestly not a mean bone in her body...she didn't say "i'm probably a better skier than you are" to put the guy down, she's a passionate little 8 year old skier and was simply offended that some gaper in a green and purple one piece thought she was out for the first time, she actually made the comment somewhat under her breath...both the guy and his wife laughed and agreed that she was probably better than them...just thought I'd throw that out there so fuck-sticks like CU don't stress out too much over a confident 8 year old girl who loves to ski. Some of you people kill me! She's not hurting anyone and she's certainly not a brat.
oh so i guess i'm the asshole!

Damn, I hate people with giant sticks up their ass like "crud's uncle".
Don't teach your children to live life on the bunny slope.

I am not taking exception with the girls behavior, I do object to the father being proud of her.
I tend not to like snowboarders and have occasionally made comments about them around the house. My oldest, an 11 year old, skied past a bunch of snowboarders sitting on the slope. He sprayed turned close to one and made a comment like "hey buddy get off the hill." When I heard about it, I did not high five him and brag about his radness. I ripped him and explained that he had no right to say what he did. Although I may agree with his comment, he has an obligation to be kind and not insult people.
And who really cares who is the better skier? Skiing is a recreation for most of us. Your daughter will not get anywhere because she can out ski a gaper.
