Since they just came up on the upstate thread:
Chuck Garvey from moe.
Even if he flies under the radar, check out other musicians comments about him. He's one of the most technically ridiculous guys out there. Frampton likes him so much he gave him a talk box.
Plus, a bit pre-pandemic they played a set where the first letters of each song spelled out Trump is a lying ass, so there's that.

I first learned of Davy at a Gathering Of The Vibes festival. He was along side front man Keller Williams for the Rhythm Devils. What a show.
On that note, others for the list:
Keller Williams is a magical leprechaun on stage.
Susan Tedeschi could carry that band on her own playing.

I just learned about Dick Wagner, who did a lot of ghost solos on Kiss and Aerosmith albums, plus was instrumental on a number of Alice Cooper's albums during his heyday.

Wagner was great, a lot of his best work was with Steve Hunter, who is still alive and still kicks ass.

Brian Kehoe
Dude is an unheralded, underground San Francisco Bay Area legend.
I saw him once in a dive bar in downtown San Rafael with his then band Kehoe Nation and he ripped.
For whatever reason he just has never become as huge as the folks he is often associated with.
Totally worth tracking down any of his stuff you can find (Kehoe Nation, M.I.R.V., Duo De Twang, etc.)

Bill Nelson has also done some cool stuff with Yellow Magic Orchestra and other bands.
I enjoy Fripp's solo work along with his other projects.

I went on an OG R.E.M. jag today (Murmur and Reckoning) and I gotta say that Peter Buck's Rickenbacher wrangling is pretty fugging underrated (and quite possibly unmatched, too).

Guthrie Govan is pretty good for a crazed wild man.
And while I might question his taste in beer, his sidemen choices seem super solid...

Yeah, the guy had an incredible catalogue of work. From Richard Hell, through Material, Lou Reed, Eno, Jody Harris and Tom Waits.
From the same city as Devo.
Plus, you know the The Quine Tapes

Hubert Sumlin
Howlin’ Wolf’s guitar man for 25 years. Mick and Keith from the Stones paid for Hubert’s funeral when he died. ‘Nuff said.

The great Dave Murray!
Mostly unknown by name, original member of one of the biggest bands on the planet, still packing stadiums in their 60s.

Not having ever been a fan of Marilyn Manson, I always dismissed John 5.
I incorrectly assumed that his solo stuff would just be more glam gloom.
Stumbled upon this video a few weeks ago and was surprised, impressed, and bummed that I had previously blown him off.
Dude rips in a variety of styles, too.
