Has anybody read the "Clapton" autobiography. It is a good read, and Clapton is surprisingly humble through out it, and give lots of credit to many bluesmen before him, and during his carrier that make him what he is. It is worth reading.

He was fucked up dude throughout most of his carrier. It is amazing he survived.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Seconded on Monte. That dude can shred on an acoustic like no other. Good live show too.

You guys have not actually made it this far without anybody mentioning Alex Skolnick, right? I just missed his name in here somewhere, I'm sure.

    Oh yeah, three more:
    Fredrik Åkesson
    Kirby Johnson
Karl Sanders (irritating band, but the guy can fucking rip)
Congrats, mags! We collected 1030.68! for birdman!

They are all well known guitarists but none of them gets nearly enough credit for their level of playing/musicianship. They are all jedi masters/dearly departed jedi masters IMVHO

    frederick thordendal is pretty amazing.

    others i agree with...

Ritchie Blackmore - too bad he quit deep purple to pursue playing wanky medieval festival music

steve morse - too bad he joined deep purple to pimp his skills playing the same damn 20 tunes over and over forever

ty tabor - possible winner here. most folks have never even heard of king's x.

I always thought Martin Barre was a great guitar player, but he was like a chameleon, he blended into whatever song he was playing in, and never dominated the piece, even when absolutely ripping his leads. I suppose he never aspired to be the show, but rather, was content to be a player, a minstrel in the gallery.

However, he was as much a part of Tull's sound as Anderson was.

I didn't read through the whole thread, but Larry Carlton is insanely underrated.

He has played solos on so many albums its unreal. Steely Dan, Michael Jackson and many others. Not to mention some of his solo albums are absolute shredfests.

+1. Saw him at the Blue Note in NYC, which is small. Someone shouted, "Hey Larry, why don't you sing."
Carlton replied, "If you could play like this, why sing?" and then he started ripping it up again!

Man, I am getting psyched for DiMeola with RTF next week.

On a different note, Brad Paisley actually rips, for that kind of thing. Unfortunately his guitar gets lost in the overproduced country schlock.

Nw the Reverend Horton Heat: I don't know about underrated, but holy fuck, he shreds.

and for the whole life story, with an intro from Bill Graham:

Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

David Rawlings. Just amazing and totally unique, yet few know the name of the guy who plays with Gillian Welch. Great singer, too.

Caught Charlie Parr at the Garage in SLC in front of maybe 25 people. He's something special.
