Julius Rabinowitz was my grandfather. Communist, before he came to the US alone at the age of 18 in 1913. Made a living driving a bread truck, sold bread to the Army when we entered WWI. then got fairly rich in real estate and insurance, never stopped voting Socialist, had Socialist mags and newspapers around the house. When my grandmother died during the night he had my cousin drive him around Detroit emptying all the bank accounts and safety deposit boxes, called the doctor to pronounce her dead at 4 in the afternoon--all to avoid probate..

There’s a racist trope in that there story.
    Not touching it.

But I do admire the effort. Fuck the government.
But it does seem odd for a socialist or communist.

Dr Hunter S Thompson was recently misquoted/half quoted in the Ikon pass thread. I'm not quite sure what the first and last phrases are all about, but the rest of it is some sage wisdom that I was recently reminded of.

"No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...and if it occasionally gets a little heavier than what you had in mind, well... maybe chalk it off to forced conscious expansion: Tune in, freak out and get beaten."

We tend to abuse the term "Legend" but MG, that is straight up Legendary. Thanks for sharing. Been through the probate process and man it can be a brutal and seemingly hopelessly unfair process.

Exactly. My grandfather was a very complicated man. He was quite well off but drove a 15 year old bottom of the line Pontiac with a hole in the floor. He lived in the downstairs flat of a little house with his eldest daughter and her family upstairs--she took care of him. He paid a Polish Holocaust survivor to marry her. They seemed to have the happiest marriage of his 4 kids. He was quite religious and was an amateur cantor, despite being a Communist--in fact the rabbi who taught him before he emigrated was a Communist as well. He had very strong favorites among his kids and their families--we were the favored ones. My cousin has a very different opinion of him than I do.

There's two bulls standing on top of a mountain. The younger one says to the older one: "Hey pop, let's say we run down there and fuck one of them cows". The older one says: "No son. Let’s walk down and fuck 'em all".
