gaper family- "oh look, you can see the whole town from here!"
    gaper kid- "woooooowwwww"

Did they not look around them while in the gondy? Did they not expect to have a view? Leaves me pondering...

    Yeah, no

Lifty shows him where the line is - behind those that got there sooner
    "I don't see a sign that sez this isn't a line"
"We don't need signs like that around here. You must be from out of town"
He was politely heckled by those in the proper line
I don't suppose I rode the chair with you this last Sunday did I? Are you Kent?

IDK maybe you had to be there.
I have to sympathize with whoever was on the other end of the conversation. Since we got the heated bidet toilet seat I refuse to take a dump on any of the other toilets. (And it's really annoying when the power goes out which it sometime does 5 times a day and the seat defaults to cold water and I forget to reset it before hitting the spray button.)

That's a tough one not to notice 'cuz the fuckin' seat's cold! I'd still rather have cold water than use paper. I knowz whatcha mean about not wanting to ever shit on a normal toilet again.

ALakes was pretty good, wind was blowing snow into some nice spots, but the ice crust underneath was plenty apparent. Nope, the Kent I rode the lift with didn't have a big bushy beard and a fur hat, just salt and pepper stubble and a ski hat. Funny dude though.

No, Harry, no Steve was riding the lift as far as I know, nor was there someone looking for Steve at the Starbottle Saloon or at Barley Browns. I'm sure there's lots of trucker blow around Baker City though.

    Because if so...
    1) The people in line sound dumb for just piling up behind everyone else and not using the entire maze available
Right?! I went on the empty side of the maze earlier this week. The full side was 25+ chairs deep.
Not my problem you don.t know how to line up.

    Got 5th chair. Suckers.

    1) The people in line sound dumb for just piling up behind everyone else and not using the entire maze available
    2) At what point in the day is it okay to use the empty side of the maze? Do we have to wait until there's no line? 10 minutes after the lift opens? 20 minutes?
    3) It sounds like these people in this lift line are all "early mergers" on the road and don't merge where a lane ends.

I'm sure the circumstance in which this story takes place it was obvious to not try to pull some line-cutting stunt, but the picture in my head leaves me confused (this is a normal occurrence).
As a touron, I generally try to avoid bringing unwanted attention to myself, esp at a small non-profit area with a tight knit group of locals. When in Rome & all that
    https://anthonylakes.com/winter/maps-stats/

There’s two sides to the lift entrance because traffic flows down from both sides of the only chair. Once the AM lineup flushes - maybe 25 chairs - its ski right on for the rest of the day. They line up on one side because the lifty doesn’t want to fuck with alternating lines for 10 minutes

So it was funny when the touron tried and failed to outsmart the locals

    Totally.

Always listen to the liftys, they are like ushers at a concert. There to help you find a place to sit, but they can also ruin your day.

Best Gaper qoute of the weekend?

Paraphrasing: “It looked like a road to me, officer.” Or “My gps said turn here.”

Drivers ride the rails, become stuck on snow-covered tracks in Durango

Snowstorm rookie tourons and maybe recent transplants you can kind of understand, but locals? A head scratcher, but humorous.

Note the Subaru was the distance winner in deep snow.

    Exactly.
This is kinda good life advice in general. Don’t berate a ticket agent, lifty, wait staff, checkout person, cleaning staff, etc. It never helps the situation.

Unless we're talking about a Reno casino concert in which case they're there to extract as much money as possible from you for a good seat.

Overheard on the shuttle at Steamboat a few weeks ago...

Gaper instructor behind us started talking about how great his skis were. He claimed his Heart (Head?) Super Shape was perfect for the whole mountain. Then the lady next to him said she hopes they still make skis like her's because she can race GS, slalom, ski bumps, and the steeps. I peeked and they were a mid 2000's Dynastar beginner/intermediate ski.

The lady's stoke on her skis was kinda cool. I wouldn't have thought much of the whole conversation cause I had a kick ass day of sidecounty pow touring.

Then the instructor started talking about my wife's and my ~100mm touring skis and how they were too wide. He said that he'd skied my ski (Navis Freebirds) telemark and that they were just OK and wouldn't make a good alpine ski.

My new favorite activity is asking patrollers at wherever I'm skiing how to get to Corbet's.

Guy I know takes stacks of trail maps from our home ski area and puts them in the map boxes at other ski areas.

yeah we do that at another ski area all the time

also, my son likes to ask people how to find Chad’s Gap, then start screaming “my ankles are broken!”
