There was some dude at Purgatory picking his way down the WROD on some new looking Renegades.

I asked him if the skis were his Quinceanera present. He looked at me like I was speaking Swahili, so I said "Nice K2s!" and skied away.

dude you qualify as a tough crowd.

Quinceañera (lit. meaning One (f.) who is fifteen), sometimes called fiesta de quince años, fiesta de quinceañera, quince años or simply quince, is the celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday in parts of Latin America and elsewhere in communities of people from Latin America. This birthday is celebrated differently from any other birthday, as it marks the transition from childhood to young womanhood.[1] The celebration, however, varies significantly across countries, with celebrations in some countries taking on, for example, more religious overtones than in others.

Being from LA I know all about Quinceaneras (although hell if I knew how to spell it), but I would've probably given a pretty blank look of my own considering how random of a jibe that is.

Not a quote, but funny nonetheless:

Over the summer I won an auction for an older pair of skis/bindings on eBay. Told the seller that I only wanted the bindings and he could remove them by taking out a handful of screws and save on the cost of shipping. Box arrived but was larger than I had expected ... because seller had used a chain saw to cut the skis just in front of and behind each binding piece.

Skiing the Canyons this past friday. At the bottom of the Saddleback lift, there were 4 16 year olds, with twin tip K2, Line and Surface skis, saying to each other, "You're a gaper." No, you're a gaper." "No, you're a gaper..."

Ah, hell, I'm just jealous 'cause you got the skis I want. I hope you get to use them a lot. The next time I see someone on Renegades around here, I'll say hi instead of being an asshole.

All in good fun. I'll be sure to say hi back.

I actually wish they were a Quinceanera present. I just try and not look at my bank account too much anymore...

Proof that posting in this thread makes me a gaper:

Walking back to the Chapel Lot with a buddy today at Copper. Buddy stops to look into one of the shop windows. Tiny, rat-like dude scampers up, looks at us, mumbles "Gapers!" and scuttles away.

Brooklyn hipster kook in my office just now: "Wait, you mean to tell me there is such a thing as PROFESSIONAL SURFING? Ha, next you'll tell me there's professional skiing or something like that."

I get this weekly whenever I ski park at keystone, "so you can do those spinny tricks?" it needs to snow so I can stop skiing the lifts.
