Of course there may be only 4 inches (of cement) at the base but it was 12+ inches at the top and wind loaded areas had over 2 feet. Not to mention the silliness of complaining to lift ops about AC policy.

riding the chair today in the midst of the first morning of a 3 day snowstorm, yo bro in styling ski gear asks me “is it gonna snow tomorrow too?”
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

Thankfully, there are still lots of gapers that ask this question.

Had the fortune of attending our granddaughter's ski race yesterday, misfortune of it being at Alpine Valley located between Chicago and Milwaukee. I did not ski, just watched the races and entertained myself by being observant. I think I have seen a photo of the turtle gear before, not sure if it was here or maybe a Jerry of the Day photo.Click image for larger version.

ID:	267947 here is another good one.

Lastly I was walking along the base and see a guy with his boot partially in his ski, but he could not get it clicked in all the way in. He is jumping on it no go. I first suspected he had the ski backwards but no, he had that correct. He then tries to get the boot out by standing on the ski with his other foot but no good there either. He then attempts to click in the other boot when the problem becomes obvious. The boot is about three sizes larger than the binding. I ask him (in blue jeans) if he just came out of the lodge and picked his skis up from the ski rack? Sure enough, suggested he go back and find his rental skis not the ones he grabbed.

Classically funny about the rental skis. They shit happens often with our welcomed and necessary Texan invasions

Not sure why bike helmets at the beginner list are gaperish.

I think we can make it! We didn’t make it. Yeah
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

I posted something similar from Japan in this thread a few weeks ago. Panda bear knee pads, etc.

Very nice - a rental no less
Does the top sign on that lightpost say Chains Required?

This is from MLK Weekend at Mt Bachelor. They are digging snow with a tray of some sort to put under the tires for traction. It's about noon, temp is about 33F and it's already icy. Don't need no stinkin' chains I have front wheel drive

Whatcha don't see is the traffic backed up about 5 miles behind them. Just one of probably a dozen shitshows I witnessed that day.

Judging by the tire tracks and reverse lights, I don't think they slid or got stuck. I thinking they are turning around (in the middle of the road) and headed back down before they do something truly gaperific.

I believe that's a chain check point and Caltrans is turning him around.

Stevens Pass parking lot, mature man and younger woman walking with skis shouldered toward the lifts. Dude is explaining how his poles are carbon fiber which is better than aluminum because "they don't telegraph the cold into your hands".

Get on the sixchair as a single with a 5 person group at Eldora. They are making big plans about what they are going to ski, what they are gonna hit - pretty quickly I realize it's their first run of the day. Finally one the bigger talkers says that it doesn't really matter, today is his first day up of the year. He then pulls out his Ikon pass.

1:00 on Superbowl Sunday is your first run of the year, and you dropped the cash for the Ikon?

Honestly, the whole mountain was baffling. It was like 75% beginners. Every lift ride was wackier than the last. Nothing against beginners. We all started somewhere. But it was like every single normal skier went home, leaving gapers only. They were just strewn all over the runs, yard sales everywhere.

I thought it was the hardcore crew that skied on Superbowl Sunday? Maybe Eldora is weird that way. Maybe hardcore went up on 70 with no crowds (my kid went to WP and said traffic wasn't bad at all) and the ski tourists come up to the local hill to pregame?

Not sure, but it was definitely Gaper Mtn on Sunday.

Ok, so they are exporting the technology to Chicago? Also saw an Asian guy with two newbies, doing some odd teaching method on flat ground. Had them hold their poles horizontal, then he grabbed the baskets and pulled them around in circles.

Last photo, maybe they have this contraption elsewhere, I have never seen one before. This thing rotates like a merry-go-round and beginners hold on and I guess get the feel of thingsClick image for larger version.

That’s how they churn snow into cheese curds. Good job not falling in the river.

Today coming down the red Pine cat track:
Me approaching stalled snowboarder: Dude want a pull (Extending my pole).
Him: sure thanks ( I get him going again)
    Me: today doesn’t suck, huh?
Him: IDK, I think I’m going home. It’s just too damn windy and the snow is wet. I’m local and I could get this anytime.
