If it's raining hard that's standard even over goretex... There's been some garbage bags in Tahoe in the last week or so for sure.

Rubber rain gear. Helly Hansen or Grunden's fishing sorta stuff. When you work in this crap at a certain point you are sick and tired of your ass and legs being wet. But beware! When you fall, you accelerate.

Because a good shell can handle some wet but also breathe. They aren't designed for jumping in a river, which skiing can be like sometimes in certain locations.

But on a powder day and it's not raining? Well, yeah, that's weird.

When my wife and I were working patrol at Eaglecrest we went to National Avalanche School. We were asked to describe avalanche work at our area. My wife said "Large men in rubber pants."

She was the pregnant lady at the field session at Alpine Meadows. Everyone was freaked out by it. They couldn't believe I'd let my pregnant wife patrol and throw bombs and stuff. She was fine. Owen was fine.

Yeah even the best gear succumbs to the snow that sticks and melts on you.

On the falling and accelerating, when I was a kid my parents had no clue about this and sent up a polished metal slide with big rollers in it during the rain. Mach schnell was reached, much air was caught and it ended... badly.

A few years ago some friends and I were skiing at Fernie, raining at the bottom snowing at the top, and there were Fernie employees handing out garbage bags to anyone that wanted one. One of my friends skied in a bag for the day. Wish I would've taken a photo.

Skiing in a trash bag is a common east coast Move. Gore-tex ain't doing shit when you're skiing in the pouring rain.

In VT they're it seems their either handing out blankets or trash bags at the bottom of the chair

Damn, I never thought about this. As brits just moved to Norway I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. If nothing else, they put me on skis at 4 so I have them to thank for that.

Trash bag rain gear... saw a couple kids making bank at Boyne Mountain a few years back by selling trash bags for $2 in the lift line on a particularly moist day.

For about 5 minutes until Kirchers gestapo yanked their passes and confiscated their wares.

Pfft... I had a friend get his pass pulled because he refused to take down his preserved copy of a certain Kircher's blog post. His pass was at a completely different resort on the other side of the company than the one the blog's author works at. But Boyne will be Boyne...

Doesn't make me want to ski at Crystal, at all.

I assume that was the infamous Kircher snowboarding post.

Yep. I think they thought that he was someone involved with the batch of "KKKrystal Mountain" stickers and shirts that surfaced in the ensuing aftermath of Mrs. Kircher's post...
