IMO the edges of trails are for the fast skiers to pass the mob. And you're harder to see standing next to a bunch of trees. The last place I want to stop. Although I don't generally stop. One of the first thing I taught my kids, when youre zig zagging down the hill don't go all the way to the edge--leave room for someone to get around you. Although they didn't zig zag down the hill for long.

And if you think spraying someone is no big deal, try spraying the other teams goalie and see what happens.

Not the line, but I've started occasionally spraying people who are just standing there blocking the lift line entrances / ropes, in particular if there's a crux and it's extremely obvious. This annoying habit got much worse during Covid due to a massive influx of new skiers (I think there's an entire thread about it) and hasn't gotten any better since. People who lack situational awareness for other people is a huge pet peeve of mine.

40 minute line on the old Germania lift at Alta, I'm paired with a kid, max 18, as we get near the front of the line a 40ish guy completely in black with a porn stache, cuts into the line right in front of us. We get off, the guy takes off an the high traverse, the kid in hot pursuit gives him a solid shoulder and puts him into the trees. No respect for his elders.

Correct move would've been to grab the MAGA hat as you ski by without stopping, and fling it frisbee-style away somewhere. While you do it, you say something like "don't spray the master, beeyatch!" and then ski away.

The crowd cheering on the guy escaping the lame-ass yellowjacket was my favourite. Complete with the failed desperation dive! HAAA!! Fuck the snow-police, we maintain order on our own, vigilante-style!

the best part was that they were both on brand new touring gear

matching boots

they both struggled getting skins on skis - actually even pulling skins apart

they both struggled getting bindings into touring mode and then getting into them


both started hiking in full kit - puffy jacket and shell, Hestra heli mitts, helmuts and goggles deployed for the up

it was 25° and blowing

I was in a tshirt with a ball cap on


they asked me if I knew the way up

hilarity ensued

At Copper Mountain. I’m on 108 ON3P Jeffries. On that bizarre half-gondola lift they don’t allow you to put your own skis in the gondi rack. So the liftie takes my skis, and is promptly completely baffled about how to put them in the rack. Tries twice to put them in while together, then finally pulls them apart, literally asks out loud what’s going on, and ends up dropping them in a snowboard slot.

I didn’t know what to say. Granted I haven’t skied there often lately, but does no one at copper ski wide twins? Bizarre. Also, only one of the slots on the rack were wide enough to fit 108s. WTF?
