Because there is essentially no run out to Snow King, it’s overall average is one of the steepest. Summit lift claims to be the steepest lift in North America, or something like that. Upper exhibition is about 45 degrees. So there are steeper runs out there. And the Town Downhill no joke, plenty of named turns waiting to catch you out. I found it both scary and an amazing rush. Did it twice telemarking the whole way. They also have a fat and baggy class, loose clothing, and fat skis.

    probably?

It's a great little hill. Skied out of SnowKing most of the 90s. Cheap beds with meal plans and poachable outdoor saunas.

Good if your dragging around tourons too. Tubing - walk to eat, site see while your getting after it.

Lucky enough to score big dump (more than) once. Maybe three feet. Jhmr was locked down for mitigation.

    Ridiculous fun on sustained pitch.

I understood the ridge OB left and off the back side was a regular hunting ground to earn turns.

Best Gaper qoute of the weekend?

Last Friday, a little pow day, JHMR, the cirque, from the travers near the top. I see a skier out of their skis, wallowing. Being of the helpful nature I ski up to see if I can help. Initially I thought they were missing a ski. Upon approach he proclaims ‘I am ok’.
“Hey no worries I am just checking in.”
“I am just looking for some solid ground”
“Ok, well there is a Cat Track just a little ways below you, a couple long traversing turns and you got it”
Guy stubbornly starts walking dragging his skis.
He is the macho NYC or NJ type, too proud to take assistance. So I depart with a ‘good luck’
Reminded me of the Wall Street hedge fund manager that tried telling me he gets more nature in his Hudson River Penthouse than we do in the country. And that the Hudson is the only river in the world that flows both directions. Also how in the summer the sunsets over Hoboken, and the winter over Liberty Park, because of the curvature of the earth. Again only visible from his penthouse, not available in the country, unless maybe you are on top of a mountain.

Ha ha. The joke's on you. The Hudson does flow both ways (the lower half at least). Not that you could pay me enough to live in a penthouse overlooking the Hudson.

    But the ‘only’ river?
While the tidal influence in the Hudson is impressive it, is not the only one.

I suspect these were selling points fed to this guy by his realtor.

Indeed, the East River, right on the other side of Manhattan also flows both ways, though I was just reading on Wikipedia that it is technically not a river.
But Shirley, there must be others.
    No longer stuck.

Second time this week I've been caught not reading carefully. As anyone who windsurfs or kiteboards in Norcal knows, the Sacramento River in it's lower stretches is also tidal. Still--150 miles is pretty impressive.

Talking with my 7 year old about his pending second ski lesson.

Me: “Now that you’ve been once, you know what to expect. You can really attack lesson number two.”

Son: “Uh-huh, I hope they give me RED ones this time!”
