TR: Rainbow Mtn - backcountry the heli way

Twas dark and cold in the Whistler toves

    Up high it was sunny

Sunny enough to see lurking bombs

    Good day for glacier skipping

    and finding chutes off glaciers

Down in the trees there's powder

    Lots of powder actually

Full TR with route description blah blah blah to follow after

Lots of wind slab up high. Prevailing winds were SE from Monday storm event. The best skiing was at tree line at NW and NE aspects

A great tease! I'm looking forward to the rest.

Glad you guys were able to make it up with much better conditions, since last year the conditions at Easter time would have been shitty.

looks pretty damn good to me, looks like there is more then one way to get away from crowds, get fresh tracks and get out of the weather. I wish I could afford heli skiing. looking forward to the full write up.

Love rainbow, I used to live in Alpine foe a couple of years and we could almost ski down to our door. Which route did you take on the way down? I have a ton of photos from there, but that was before digital cameras. Such a good mix of whatever you want to ski up there.

What's it cost these days. Used to be $60 for a single ride.

$ 80 if you fill up 5 spots in a heli. Not too bad really. We took 19 Mile Creek and Flank Trail down.

Todd - thinking of duffy missions on the weekend. Just went up Phalanx today. nice snow down low - not so good up high

    Amy that was weezy

already a bootpack in stairmaster. Windphucked from the big slopes at toe of Foon Alley all the way to the slopes just above Billygoat lake. Good for 250m shots down to billygoat lake and above. Warm though
