your full name engraved on your skis?

was this just a mid 80's, mid-west thing? i remember getting my k2 5500's for x-mas with my name engraved on em right over the toe piece. i'm pretty sure that the shop (sitzmark in o.p.,ks) offered this service when you purchased some new boards. or maybe my dad had it done at the local bowling alley, i don't recall. does this still happen anywhere??

Not a mid-west thing, it was done all over. And more like a late 70's thing.

I used to give cutomers a line about "the structural integrity of the sheets relative to the performance of the skiis" when they would ask if we did that. And i'd offer them a permanent black marker

Back in the day- as in, middle school or so- I was riding the Loon gondy when some guy pointed to basom's new-to-him Atomics out on the rack and said, "Hey, those are my old skis!" Sure enough, his name was right on 'em.

I bought some skis from mntlion, and they had "Bob's skis" written in marker on masking tape on each tip.

    They're my bob skis.

I bet that at that moment, basom really regretted stealing that particular pair of skis.

I too had my name engraved in a new pair of skis by the shop, sometime in the late 80's.

I don't have my skis engraved but I will engrave my name on the face of anybody I catch trying to steal them.

you should also include your ssn#, mothers maiden name, mailing and billing address, bank account # and credit card number just to make sure that if someone finds your skis they can get in touch with you.

This is a timely thread. I just got an email from Mugo Akwuko offering to engrave my name, SSN and date of birth on all of my skis.

I was going to see if he could engvrave this on my skis instead
