Myself, Lee Lau, Sharon, Jimmy and a bunch of others went out for a tour today. Most of them are staying overnight for the new years so I'm sure more pics will show up here in a few days but here's what I got today.

It definitely was busy in our little slice of heaven up north. New Year's brings out the crowds and we shared slopes with 4 other parties. Good thing that we found some untouched goods on a NE - E facing shot that dropped down from 2150m to 1550m through trees. This time around we got Hard results on a compression test off W/S about 25cms down - non-reactive to ski cuts; minor sluffing. No new snow in last 10 days.

    1F light snow in top 45cms - thin W/S at 25cms at ridgeline - 4F snow from 45 to 80 w/ pineapple m/f crust at 80cms.

    Me in the trees

    Jimmy

    Jameson

Trees opened out to pillows as we dropped to the landing and creek

As Sharon, Adrian, Jim set up camp, Jameson and i headed up for one more run leaving at 3:45 and getting to the top at 4:15 - just 20 minutes of sun left. The run was incredible east facing steep light blower. We left off the goggles as it was pretty dark and the snow was over the head - filling up my hood completely. Unfortunately Jameson didn't bring a headlamp so the last few metres down to the creek was slow going in dark.

That night, the stars came out and we dreamed of blue skies for the next day ....

Day 2 - not quite bluebird. No new snow. Still nice temps - 10 in the valley - 15 in the ridgeline

Jim on the skintrack admiring lines and possibilities

Run #1 was a NE shot that dropped 300m down a moderate slope to 1500m or so

    Jim dropping in

Adrian down the line. Lots of other lines possible off the knoll in the backdrop

I punched in a skintrack to the ridgeline and Pk 5600 so we could ski a variation of this line but with a 450m shot right back down to the bowl.

Snow on the way down was deeeep

Blasting down to the bowl - say hello to my friend Mr Over The Head

Re-used our skintrack yet again to ski one more variation skiers right and down a small spine

    Adrian

Looks like the next day wasn't too shabby either. Better than the gongshow that was me and nadia sled skiing. We broke EVERYTHING! It's all good though, we got some good beta so not all was lost.

beer always makes the runs worthwhile - some places more then others I guess...
