Because those patrollers came in on their day off to make some overtime $. When have you ever seen 9 open the first week of Jan -- especially with as slow as start and reactive a snowpack as we have right now?

Chair 8 wil be spinning soon. Don't get your panties in such a twist.

Maybe you should go and FIND OUT what the Flight For Life/Loveland Ski Patrol/Alpine Rescue Team was actually doing today down in Dry Gulch. Pull your head out of your ass and check out the channel 4 news. It was a training that had been scheduled for over a month, sorry we didn't check with you first. Lift 8 & 9 will be open soon enough for you.

I continually point out Chairs 9 & 8 can open earlier by using available snow ribbons in gullies and snow fences to the Loveland team. The pushback is rocky entrances, blah-blah. That ain't Paymaster, it's above treeline for crying out loud. Manage it as such. Europe does fine with winds, above treeline and bony spots. Manage it like a euro and be done with this. Should have been open weeks ago with proper ski area management and the fortitude to get it done. Git 'er done for crying out loud.

    Or sub-contract to us and we'll git her done at 4, 8 & 9 .......

    2.5 weeks later...

At least the ridge probably won't rip to the ground after guests are skiing it this year.

I skied off 9 this weekend. I went to the left, expecting to find a nice groomed trail at least to the 1S gate, but ran into a bunch of rocks. I thought by late February they would have covered those rocks, but I guess not this year . Strategically located snow fences would do a lot of good up there.

Its been a low snow year at the Luv. Pic below is of my kids in 2017 and this year. The kids are a foot taller now. The coverage of the boulder behind them is telling.

But you are such an awesome bootlicker. Your company loves you.

And I would say, the ridge is the mostest lie.

On the top it's thin. Everything SE facing (Challenger > Velvet Hammer) ran last week on the melt-freeze crust and is probably pretty meh skiing until that gets back filled a good bit. Patrol bowl and things S of it are skiing pretty well. Just watch out in the typical windswept areas, especially towards the bottom.
