    Montezuma Opening Soon?

I need some new terrain, does anyone have the scoop on the opening of Montezuma at the Legend?
I like it deep and wet!

    I'd like to know also.
Looks like they are trying to open new terrain. Plenty of rocks under powder (as expected). Heard they were focused on the alleys of Pali next.

They were shooting for next weekend at one point im time. Havent been to the basin in a month or so now so not really sure what the coverage is like. Anyone seen it from Keystone lately? Havent skied Keystone in the day time in a while either.

I was up there on Thursday and skated over to the edge of Montezuma. It looked really thin- I can't imagine they'll open it without another 3 feet of snow or so.

i was at keystone yesterday riding up the summit and montezuma chairs and had a really good view of the bowl. obviously, it looked good from a distance and right after a storm, but i find it hard to believe they actually have enough snow to open it. especially, with it facing south.

I wondered about that area's ability to hold good snow when I skated over to the top a few weeks ago. It looks like it gets a ton of sun exposure, and it's pretty open up top to the wind. Historically has the top of the Montezuma basin held good snow in mediocre snow years?

I was up there on Saturday. Coverage is definitely improving on the front side, but I think it will take another 3' or so before zuma opens. I hope it's nothing like the east wall, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it only opens for 2 months/year.

We skied A Basin today and they were running the new lift into Montezuma...However the bowl wasn't open and no one was riding the lift. Talked with the liftie at the top tower and he is saying that patrol wants another 2-feet before they open it. From the top tower you have a pretty good view of the terrain and trust me it was very rocky. It looks like they could open the groomer right down the center of the bowl now and nothing else. Some of the terrain looks like it will never get coverage, specifically, the steeps to skiers right (the best terrain there in my view) starts out with a nice cornice, runs for a few hundred feet and the ends up in a giant boulder field which will never get covered. Looks like you'll get a few nice turns and then have to traverse out to the groomer...of course this assumes the gapers won't bump it up like Pali.

Honestly, I bet it skis well for less than 2 weeks combined all year.
