Thumbs up TR: Endless Steep and Deep - Silverton - 12/8-9/07

Trip Report: Endless Steep and Deep - Silverton
    12/8 (THE STORM)
    and
    12/9 (BLUE BIRD)

    12/7/07 - The Miracle

Oh the frustration. It was full on nuclear winter and I was supposed to spend my whole weekend in an avalanche rescue course that I couldn't get out of. Luckily, mother nature helped out. The avalanche rescue course was canceled due to... wait for it... avalanche danger!

There was only one thing to do: Go to Silverton!

As soon as I was done doing work that I had to do in person, we all loaded up into Jski's jeep and headed. I finished up my shift working through a laptop hooked up to the interweb via a cellphone.

    12/8/07 - The STORM

9th unguided chair: There were about 60 or 70 people at the mountain. ~30"

    I also went skiing

I suffered a catastrophic equipment failure and had to end the day after my 5th run.
I returned to the hotel, picked up the phone, and quit one of my jobs.

    12/9 BLUE BIRD

Aaron and Jenny Brill took very good care of us and so I was able to ski again. It snowed another 6 or 7 inches. It was supposed to be snowy all day, but instead it went bluebird.

Jski throwin that mandatory crotch grab

We got 7 runs in. adimmen ran from the bottom of tiger back to the lift carrying his spatulas to make sure he got #7. jski and I rode the bus.

adimmen would like to thank Volant for their heavy metal topsheets. Not only do they give him a good workout, but they kept his bindings attached to his skis when the screws pull out resulting in a 30" long topsheet delam:

Jski after 7 runs (I felt the same way... adimmen went to hike the lift line but the patrollers took him away and we haven't seen him since)

PS: Silverton rules and is the coolest resort in the state.

I also have to mention, these photos would be better if blurry and had less steeze, and more low angle.

I said it for the preview, and I'll say it again:

    Amazing.

That quitting a job thing sounds good. I might have been able to make it down there, too.

Do tell on the catastrophic failure...

Looks pretty shitty down there. Can't believe you actually made that 7-hour drive.

In other news, it has been confirmed that I need to go back to Silverton. Hopefully you shall come with, A. Cheers to some more fantastic camerawork.
