They know their stuff: Ski and Skiing are the magazines, and Powder 'tries too hard'.

But the NYPost doesn't even qualify as a real newspaper, so who cares?

Powder is for skiers who want to be seen as hip and anti-establishment, and in their quest to be edgy and cool, the editors devote barrels of ink to extreme skiing, freestyle skiing, heli-skiing and any other kind of skiing that pushes the limits of safety and common sense. The cover story, "To Live and Die in Chamonix," about the scariest slopes in the French Alps, pretty much sums up this attitude. Flipping through all the extreme shots though, it's hard to shake the nagging feeling that the magazine is trying a little too hard - and could wind up becoming the publication for wannabes rather than real powder players.
On some levels I kinda agree with the last sentence.

There is a surprisingly high word count in that article. I thought the NY Post just used symbols and pictures.

The Post reader won't be hiking to any steeps in Chamonix, I'm sure.
My favorite Post demographic story involves Saks Fifth Ave. When the ad people were pushing their paper to the higher ups at the company, the CEO at the time dismissed them with "Your readers are my shoplifters.".

Being as I generally disagree with the rest of their editorial slant it makes perfect sense. The Post is like the Sun, only without tits on page 3. And who ever makes it past page 3 of the Sun?

Powder does seem to try a little to hard though.

I don't know.... I find the New Yorker to have lots more ski stoke as well much better movie reviews.
