We should come up with some distinction between the depth of new snow vs. how high on the body it hits you when you're skiing through it.

Super glad it's dumping in a lot of spots and should continue through most of the day, but let's keep the superlatives in check. If you post a picture of someone standing still with the new, fresh snow up to their waist, then that's saying something.

Not trying to be a buzz kill, but it seems like every powder day this year has been "waist deep".

    Thank god someone said it.

Anyone can throw a slash turn in 3"s of fresh and get "face shots".

In my opinion, they only count when skis are parallel to the fall line.

Hard to get waist deep these days on 130mm waist rockered skis, unless you are falling or on telemark gear. Of course, the two are not mutually exclusive

best part about telemark skiing? watching your friends do it!

downvalley weather has been some clouds, one snow shower, and sunny now. Radar returns look very showery now. Hoping tonight this thing lets loose again. Copper snowcam shows about 5 during the day.

Haven't any of you skied in Utah? Actual waist deep snow there. So light and fluffy that you are literally waist deep and the only way to ski it is in the steepest run you can find.
or straightlining in fully rockered skis... haha

Well it was definitely knee deep at the Love - for my 10 year old son!

But really, by the time we were hitting some stuff it was a solid 6-9" at Loveland at 10 a.m. And it's still puking nicely.

    its dumping right now....i dunno.

could be ridiculously high depending on how much we get tonight and considering how hard is snowed throughout the day.

    so considering all that...higher...

Don't know if Vail tweeted any numbers this afternoon, but I'd guess more than 5" between 8:30 and 4:00. I'm guessing more like 8"

Vail is showing 18this morning! Any ideas on how much fell after lifts closed? I really wish they reported that.

How's the wind gonna be today?

Pretty typical NW flow storm for CB, meaning 5" at CBMR and 18" at CS Irwin. MBSC and I were enjoying the latter. Looks like the flow might go more Westerly on Monday. Fingers crossed.

YTD for Irwin is now at 409" compared to Alta's 329". Suck it Utards.

    Joel,

Do you mind peeking into your crystal ball and prognosticating a bit? Headed to Polar Star the 16th-18th. Any idea on general pattern? Early glimpses look like a trough moving in the beginning of next week (13th-14th).

Well, that was a fun storm. Good orographics (for some) + jet stream overhead + dynamics + cold advection all for 24 hours = nice totals:-)

Have fun out there - I fully expect reports from 6' 0" grown men that the snow was eyeball deep!

Nice shot comes through Monday night...more on that tomorrow.
