    I skinned up Snowmass to 10k @ 7:30.
3-4” of wet snow over an rain saturated isothermic base.

There was a ribbon of snow pretty much from the fee station on the way in, but that was all but melted out when we left. We had to ditch the sled at slide debris a mile from the lake. There were 2 debris piles that we got through before that. It's likely 3 miles of pavement now, so e-bikes would likely be a better choice.

Yesterday was pretty something special at Breck. Ski onto every lift and so much untracked left at last bell. Don’t think I’ve ever had a resort day like that before, at least not in the front range. Crazy how empty it was. They need to stay open late more often!

Hoping for a slow melt this May. The skiing up high is just too good.

    Great shots, show.

What to make of this? Forgive me if discussed elsewhere, I only check this and the 70 thread.

Seems like the market is there in some form, and if it results in even a modest amount of people making better/safer decisions (or not being in a place where they can make bad decisions in the first place), then it's a positive.

I have been following their efforts because I am curious and don't know what to make of it. Not really sure how the business model will work. They'll need a lot of people or charge a lot to be able to offer any amenities and safety.

This. And once people realize that optimistically they're only going to get a couple downhill runs in per day... I suspect not a ton of repeat customers.

But maybe they know something I don't.

Yeah, its viability financially certainly TBD. Particularly if the expectation is for mitigation beforehand, etc, although then what are you learning? It's actually probably most viable the way they did it at WP last weekend - in closed resort terrain. I wouldn't be surprised if the way it actually comes to fruition is Vail or somebody starts offering a pricey "backcountry experience" a few weekends after they close.

There were a couple of facebook posts suggesting that the first trial day was somewhat poorly-run. I'm also curious to see how it goes though.

It’s an interesting idea...Ive often wondered why someone doesn’t try and do something like this at Geneva Basin or another closed ski area.
