I've bouldered up there a bunch twenty years ago. I'd be scared but I assume they were "far enough" away and probably behind/bouldering underneath another big ass boulder so they felt "safe." I never felt unsafe (other than the usual alpine hazards) up there but that scares the shit out of me.

As others have said, definitely get an early start for the Crest. The early afternoon T-storms have been pretty consistent down here, so I'd put confidence in the forecast. Above treeline on a ridge is not where you want to be when the lightning starts up. Depending on what your intended route is, give yourself ample time. Pedaling no later than 8am from Monarch Pass, earlier might be better. You'll avoid weather AND people.

Elevation for post-ride beers, Sweetie's (rider owned joint in Salida) for delicious sandwiches.
The older I get, the faster I was.

    Punch it, Chewie.

    Damn he seems cool.

Had a couple of excellent beers at Elevation and an amazing Sweetie’s sandwich last weekend. Definitely recommend. First Cast IPA is my favorite beer.

When we're in a high pressure/ no monsoon pattern, I've actually found that the later start is $. Everyone starts riding around 8. Start at 10 and sometimes you hardly see anyone.

This really needs more emphasis. Worst way to end a good ride.

It's an awesome trail. One of the best in the state. It's just a lot of pedaling after the ripping Silver Creek section and the mini downhill to the road isn't long enough.

Mountain bikers are mostly just too out of shape to hammer Rainbow like it wants to be ridden. Once these dudes get ebikes they will appreciate it.

In a vacuum, it's a fine trail. It's just a terrible ending trail for the Crest ride.

Meh. My problem with that trail is that the logical trail to connect singletrack from Rainbow to the CDT is closed to moto. So I have to climb up Marshal dirt road. All so i don't run over or ruin the day of a bunch of mountain bikers coming down Silver Creek.

If you guys hate it so much give it back to us. Starvation was given to mountain bikers as well even when the hikers cried about it. I swear it is the biggest cry baby user group. Biggest not the loudest. That would be the equestrian group.

If the mountain bikers take Greens Creek away from moto I will go full mental. Going up that trail then dropping into agate is a blast. Luckily mountain bikers hate agate as well

WHAT?!?! I love this trail, despite the fact that it descends thousands of feet without any discernible downhill.

    Still love it.

I hated rainbow when I was newer to biking but now I don't mind it. Either way I seem to always go down Greens these days because it's that good.

This is 100% accurate, I am a lazy fuck, especially after riding the rest of the Crest, and Rainbow requires you to not be a lazy fuck.

I'm down with opening Silver to moto or reopening or whatever.

I’d be cool with a shitload of bike trails opening up to moto. Most of the time it makes them way more fun, cement creek in CB is great example of that.
